New York, NY, July 11 – St. Louis garage rockers Living Things are about to appear as one of their hero bands, The Ramones in the now-filming The Runaways, the biopic about the groundbreaking 70’s all-girl hard rock group led by Joan Jett. Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame plays Jett, with Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and Academy Award-nominated actor Michael Shannon as the band’s “Svengali” Kim Fowley (excellent call). Classic Post-Punk Single of the Day: Bauhaus’ “Spirit”
“We Love Our Audience”
On this date, June 7th in 1982: Bauhaus released their eighth single, “Spirit.” It was backed by a live version of “Terror Couple Kill Colonel” (released as a studio single in 1980). The A side appeared on their third album, The Sky’s Gone Out. The B-side wound up as a bonus track on their live album, Press The Eject And Give Me The Tape, when it was released on CD. It’s interesting to note that the single version of “Spirit’ has a pop, almost calypso feel, while the live version is arranged as a heavy, rolling dirge. Which version you prefer is, I suppose, a matter of taste. I like them both.

Lux Interior, (born Erick Lee Purkhiser) lead singer of The Cramps, passed away this morning due to an existing heart condition at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California at 4:30 AM PST . strong>Lux has been an inspiration and influence to millions of artists and fans around the world. He and wife Poison Ivy’s contributions with The Cramps have had an immeasurable impact on modern music.

Death Metal Band Logos
“What?”
When I saw the above graphic, featuring a collection of black and death metal band logos, I immediately recalled my reaction every time I open a package of promo CDs from Earache, and chagrin to myself over how impossibly difficult it is to even decipher the name of the band. Hilariously enough, Viceland.com discusses this very phenomena in an Interview with Christophe Szpajdel, a 37-year-old Belgian artist living in the UK. During the last 20 years, Szpajdel has designed more than 7,000 logos, mostly for black and death metal bands from all over the world, including Emperor, Moonspell, Nachtmystium and Enthroned. Nearly as entertaining as the interview itself are the passionately dimwitted comments from readers. Enjoy!
