On This Date, June 19th in 1967: Paul McCartney was the first British pop star to publicly admit using LSD, in chatting with a reporter who had inquired about it. Paul’s LSD quote appeared in Queen, a UK-based magazine at the time. The quote was also then reprinted by Life magazine in their June 1967 feature, ‘The New Far-Out Beatles: They’re grown men now and creating extraordinary musical sounds’ by Thomas Thompson. Happy Birthday to Freddie, Al and Dweezil!
Guitarist Dweezil Zappa was born on this day, September 5th, in 1969, while singer/songwriter Al Stewart was born in 1945, with the late, great Queen front man, Freddie Mercury joining us on this day in 1946. Ventures’ Guitarist Bob Bogle Succumbs to Cancer at Age 75

“Walk Don’t Run”
This past Sunday, June 14th, Bob Bogle, guitarist for the legendary and wildly influential instrumental surf rock band The Ventures, passed away after a lengthy battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 75 years old. My friend and colleague Steve Stav, a truly marvelous writer, has posted a very personal remembrance of and fitting tribute to Bogle on his blog, Intermittent Signals, which you can read by following this link. RIP, Bob.
