Gail and Emmy's Rad Rock Adventure!

Seether: Bad Ass Central (John on Far Left)

It is no secret that I like to Rock, and I really don’t do it as much as I should, mostly because sometimes I prefer to nap. But Emmy and I had a fucking blast last night when we went to see Seether. Here is how the night went down:

Had excellent Public Transportation Karma with the trains

Cut to the front of the miles-long line outside the Hammerstein Ballroom by lying about our guest list tickets being at will call, when we had our tickets on us (but our passes were at will call, so it was only a half-lie. Still, it worked and that is what counts).

Got right in with no problem (See above ruse)

Inserted Earplugs appropriately

Made our way backstage while Papa Roach was still doing their set

Ate some Snacks in catering (Tiramisu = Quite Good!)

Met up with my friend John (Seether Drummer)

Watched Seether’s show from side stage (totally awesome)

Avoided bodily injury

Hung out with Marco the Vic Firth stick guy, and another gu who was once the drummer from the Dictators

Got invited to the Aftershow Party

Decided not to stay for Staind (No Brainer)

Froze ass off walking four blocks to the Aftershow party

Stopped at Papaya King to enjoy a delicious “President Obama Special” 99 cent hot dog

Continued one half a block to Aftershow party held upstairs at Stitch, a very dark bar

Ate Fried Snacks

Drank Mexican Beer

Hung out with John for hours

Took a Cab Home

In Bed by 1:00 AM

RAD FUN!

John Humphrey, Drummer, SEETHER

Johnny!

I LOOOOOOOOVE Gail Worley, it’s true! She was a pleasure to work with and very easy to talk to. As a musician and entertainer, doing interviews can be a pain in the ass – bad questions, misquotes, etc., but not with Gail. She was very creative, educated in regards to the subject matter and professional. It was a dream of mine to appear in Modern Drummer magazine one day and I’m glad Gail wrote that article. Xoxo.

Van Halen!

The current issue of Modern Drummer magazine, with the legendary Alex Van Halen on the cover, features my interview with John Humphrey of the South African metal juggernauts, Seether. John talked about his recovery from back surgery, playing drums and stuff like that. It was rad. The article also features a sidebar with Seether vocalist, Shaun Morgan. In a word: Brooding! An Interview with John Humphrey of Seether

It’s been two years since South African rock band Seether released its fifth album, Karma and Effect, so the group’s latest CD, Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces can hardly be called a ‘come back.’ But the new album does represent a come back of sorts for drummer John Humphrey. In December of 2006, John underwent major back surgery to repair a painful and debilitating collapsed disc that had seriously compromised his ability to play drums. Regarding the chronic condition he lived with for over four years, Humphrey explains, “Physically, my upper body was strong and my hands were not affected, but in the year prior to my surgery, I noticed that my bass drum leg had become very weak. I didn’t realize how weak until towards the end of our last tour, when I was using two legs to play parts that I could usually play with one.”
