On display in my apartment is a large Red Lucky Daruma doll, which was given to me about 25 years ago by a favorite (now ex) boyfriend . I never bothered to look up the legend of why these dolls are considered to be lucky, or why they look the way they do, but when I found this tiny pink one (about 2-inches around) at Pearl River Mart in the Chelsea Marketplace, I knew I had found this week’s Pink Thing, and was inspired to do some investigating.
The good news is that Pearl River Mart in Chinatown has reopened! The great news is that they have all kind of terrific new merchandise in stock, such has this Shark Attack Hand Puppet, which is just insane.
OMG so scary, and yet it is made from such soft rubber, that it feels very non-threatening your hand.
This ‘Terror From The Deep’ is recommended for ages 3 and up, and sells for just $7.50! Shark Attack on Your Fist!
It is no secret that shopping at Pearl River Mart is my jam, because that store has everything. Earlier this year, Pearl River opened a new location in the Chelsea Market, and that is where I discovered this breathtaking decorative display of Pink Chinese Paper Lanterns and colorful paper parasols, which inspired today’s ‘pink thing’ post. These lanterns can be used (and re-used) in place of balloons as festive party décor, don’t you think? They are so lovely.
Chinese Paper Lanterns in a variety of colors and sizes are available for super cheap at both Pearl River locations (Chinatown and Chelsea) and they can also be purchased online at This Link!
