Do you like the Sixties Rock? I sure do. That’s why The Grip Weeds are one of my favorite local bands. Not only do they freely worship The Beatles, but they also pay homage to the sound of many of the greatest bands of both the Psychedelic era and the British Invasion. Oh my, they are so groovy.

Happy Birthday, Creed Bratton!
Former guitarist for the sixties’ pop band Grass Roots, Creed Bratton, was born on this day, February 8th in 1943! Creed can be seen in the video above for the Grass Roots’ awesome hit, “Midnight Confessions,” wearing a royal blue shirt, standing on the far left. These days, Creed is best known for playing a fictionalized version of himself, Dunder Mifflin customer service rep Creed Bratton, on NBC’s The Office. Happy Birthday Creed! Thanks for the great music and all the laughs!
The Beatles Release Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
On This Day In 1967: The Beatles released the groundbreaking concept album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The album was a worldwide critical and commercial success, spending a total of 27 weeks at the top of the UK Album Chart and 15 weeks at number one on the American Billboard 200. A defining album in the emerging psychedelic rock style, Sgt. Pepper was critically acclaimed upon release and won four Grammy Awards in 1968. Often recognized by prominent critics and publications as one of the most influential albums in the history of rock music, Sgt. Pepper frequently ranks at or near the top of published lists of the greatest albums of all time. In 2003, the album was placed at number 1 in the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Yesterday (August 3rd, 2006) I heard of the sad passing of Love front man Arthur Lee, one of the greatest rock visionaries of the ’60s or any other time. In college, I was greatly blessed to discover Love’s third release, Forever Changes, and I can honestly say the music on this phenomenal album brought about a monumental shift in perception for me. I’m listening to the CD right now as a matter of fact, and the timelessness of songs like “The Red Telephone” and “Alone Again Or” (covered by everyone from UFO to The Damned) still blows my mind.
A Must Own Album
