Ah, The Damned: a band that has managed to stay fresh and vital through subtle sonic reinvention for four decades now — wow! Punk Rock pioneers whose strong pop sensibilities and solid musicianship have allowed them to transcend the trends, they are making their debut appearance as the Video Clip of The Week with their new single, the anthemic “Standing On The Edge Of Tomorrow” — and what an honor that is. Visually, “Standing On The Edge Of Tomorrow” is a Bladerunner-esque adventure that’s their most ambitious video to date. Vocalist and charismatic frontman Dave Vanian, who also directed the clip, has this to say about the song’s message:

When it comes to making dangerous music that reliably brings the Sturm Und Drang while also maintaining a tenuous grip on melodic pop sensibilities, nobody beats Post Punk/Industrial legends, Killing Joke. While we are not super fond of the current phenomenon known as the Lyric Video, when you have a chance to post new a Killing Joke video, you put your personal preferences slightly off to the side, just as we have long since forgiven Jaz Coleman for allowing one of his band’s most menacing anthems to be used as the theme music for a Short-lived TV Sitcom. Yes, it happened.

Joan Jett isn’t the only one who loves Rock & Roll, bitches. Former Hanoi Rocks front man and, let’s face it, Glam Rock Legend, Michael Monroe seems to be fond of it as well — and who could blame him? While Monroe should have been as big of a household name as, say Steven Tyler, it didn’t quite work out that way. But Michael Monroe has always played the hand he was dealt. Video Clip of the Week: Turbowolf, “Nine Lives”
Caution: Heavy Rock Action Ahead! While I was initially drawn in by this video’s surreal, cut out animation, which reminds me so much of the mind blowing collage art of Fred Tomaselli, it’s the song’s relentless aural ass-kicking that keeps me clicking on the repeat button. With a solid ’70s vibe that cannot be denied, “Nine Lives” from British Rock Powerhouse Turbowolf also adheres to what I’d call “Classic Contemporary” Rock influences to sound something like Monster Magnet meets the original band called Alice Cooper with a T Rex chaser. Eeeexcellent.
