Oasis Receives the Legacy Treatment

It’s a fact that there will never be another band like The Beatles. I mean, it takes too long to even talk about. But for about 15 years, Oasis sure did have us imagining what a second coming of the Fab Four might be like, didn’t they? Tabloid tales of poor personal hygiene and ridiculous sibling rivalry / rampant fisticuffs between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher aside, Oasis was a real rock & roll band! Together with whoever happened to be in the band at the time, the brothers Gallagher wrote and recorded so many classic melodic pop songs that are better and more enduring than anything you’ll hear on the radio today. “Champagne Supernova” – what does that even mean? Who cares! I’d rather listen to Oasis for one hundred million billion years than Lady Gaga for fifteen minutes. In the span of their career, Oasis released seven consecutive number one albums,  put on a live stage show the likes of which has been all but abandoned these days, and acted like old-school rock royalty – all while managing to not have any members OD on heroin!  Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey even played drums for them for awhile! And fuck if “What’s the Story Morning Glory” – which is supposedly about waking up with a boner – isn’t one of the best Britpop songs ever! Oasis!

If you still doubt how commercially successful Oasis really were, the band holds the Guinness World Record for being the “Most Successful Act of the Last Decade” in the UK between the years 1995 and 2005, spending 765 weeks in the Top 75 singles and albums charts. Like, wow.

The Oasis era is part of history now, as Liam and Noel go their separate ways with new post-Oasis projects.   But whether you just own a few Oasis albums or are one of those obsessed completist collectors who absolutely must have everything the band ever put out including every heinously expensive Japanese import, more Oasis is coming your way, as Sony Music, Legacy and Big Brother Recordings Limited release Time Flies… 1994-2009 – the definitive Oasis hits collection!

According to Sony Music:
Time Flies… 1994-2009 pays homage to the band as no other anthology has ever done – and serves to introduce Oasis to the next generation who are becoming aware of their enormous influence. Fans will be pleased to know that Time Flies… 1994-2009 surpasses and supersedes both previous Oasis compilations. This release, containing all the band’s hit songs, is a very different proposition than Stop The Clocks, the band’s personal ‘best of’ collection released in 2006, which focused on B-sides and lesser-known tracks, and featured only 10 of the classic Oasis single A-sides. The previous compilation, 1998’s interim 14-song set The Masterplan, consisted entirely of non-album single B-sides.

Oasis – Time Flies… 1994-2009 will be available in three tasty flavors. If you’re looking for your no-frills basics, pick up the 2 audio CD set, featuring 26 of the 27 single A-sides released in the UK, plus the #1 U.S. Modern Rock radio hit “Champagne Supernova” on a North American edition only. There’s also a UK import box set (4 discs) featuring the two CDs (pictured above), with a 2 track variation , plus a third CD of the last-ever recorded Oasis live show in July 2009 (at the iTunes Festival at The Roundhouse in London) and a DVD compilation of all 38 UK and U.S. promotional video clips (making it the band’s first career-spanning video clips collection). And lastly,  vinyl Salvationists out there can pick up the Time Flies UK import 5-LP vinyl box set featuring the 26 single tunes (with “Sunday Morning Call”) spread over 10 LP sides.

Get yer Oasis on!
