On This Date, September 27th, in 1986: Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was killed in Sweden when the band’s tour bus skidded off the highway and flipped onto the ground. Burton was thrown through the window of the bus, which then fell on top of him, crushing him to death. He was 24 years old.
Sadness, man. I remember being really, really young, like 5 or 6, and first getting into Metallica with my older brother. He told me about Cliff’s death, how he died, etc – definitely a sad story. I can’t believe that it’s been so long, and I also can’t believe he was that young when he died, because when I was young he seemed so old and epic. Kudos to my brother for turning me on to great music at such a young age, though!
