Celebrity Net Worth Dot Com, a website I had no idea even existed before this morning, has just published a fun list of the Thirty Richest Drummers in the World, and it’s just the kind of thing that makes me wish I were in a room full of drummers right now, so we could discuss it. First of all, the list is comprised of all Rock Drummers, which is amazing. Also, in addition to guys you’d expect to see on the list – such as Ringo Starr (at #1) and Charlie Watts (at #6, just below The Eagles’ Don Henley and Lars Ulrich of Metallica) there are couple of BIG surprises.

Danny Carey of Tool, a band that, while totally awesome, didn’t (as far as I know) really sell a lot of records, nor are they even still together as a band, comes in at #21 with an impressive $40 Million Net Worth. Danny Carey! I would guess that Danny not only invested well, but that he also makes a good chunk of change from his Drum Clinics and the instructional videos he makes. Another surprise is Steven Adler’s placing at #29, with $15 Million in assets. Woo! As the first person to be officially fired from Guns ‘N’ Roses, hilariously, for drug abuse, it’s heartening to learn that not only is Steven not destitute, but that he will surely be set for life as long as he doesn’t relapse. Yay, Steven! Here’s the full list:

Metallica Release Master of Puppets

On This Date, March 3rd in 1986: Metallica released its highly influential third album, Master of Puppets, considered by many in the metal community to be the best metal album of all time. This was the final Metallica album with original bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed when the group’s tour bus over-turned in southern Sweden while touring to promote the album.

Happy 70th Birthday, Lou Reed!

Lou Reed Holding a Cigarette

Lou Reed, whom I think we can all agree is a Rock Legend, was born on this day, March 2nd in 1942. I can wish Lou a Happy Birthday for giving us great songs like “Perfect Day” and “Satellite of Love,” but I can’t seem to get past that mortifying horrorshow of an album he made with Metallica last year.

Happy Birthday, Dave Mustaine!

Dave Mustaine of Megadeth was born on this day, September 13th in 1961, which makes him just a wee bit younger than me (bastard). I had dinner with Dave once and, aside from being hilarious and a super nice guy, I can tell you that he has (or at least had) the most beautiful hair in Rock. I bet he is a Pantene guy, for sure.  Happy Birthday, Dave!

Remembering Cliff Burton

Cliff Burton

On This Date, September 27th, in 1986: Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was killed in Sweden when their tour bus skidded off the highway and flipped onto the ground. Burton was thrown through the window of the bus, which then fell on top of him, crushing him to death. He was 24 years old.

Metallica Demands that Online Journalists Remove Reviews of its Music

Metallica

I Believe that Their New CD is Called Douchebags Of The Universe

I really thought that Metallica, easily the most hyper-litigious band in the history of music, had hit rock bottom when they sued Victoria’s Secret over the name of an eyeliner pencil that contained the word “Metallica” in the description of the shade. Apparently, I was incorrect in that assumption. This post from Arstechnica.com about Metallica’s management requesting that bloggers remove reviews of its newest album proves that these guys have, in fact, hit bottom and started to dig. It’s nice to see that Metallica didn’t want the reputation they earned from the Napster debacle to be forgotten.

Note: It appears that the story at the link above has been updated in Metallica’s favor!

Rad Website of the Month: Quiltsryche.Com

A guy in my office just turned me on to Quiltsrÿche Dot Com, this completely insane company that makes custom designed heavy metal bed quilts. “Quiltsrÿche turns traditional quilting on its ear with modern heirloom quilts that look like they were made by your metal-loving, half-blind Grandma. Bold designs, eye-popping color combinations and a touch of evil are the hallmarks of Quiltsrÿche quilts. A one-of-a-kind rock quilt won’t match your curtains, but it will have enough character and craftsmanship to captivate you year after headbanging year.” Oh my god, I want one so bad. Check out these designs:

“Skullfucked”
Remember that Iron Maiden poster that was so scary you had to hide it in your closet? Did you lay awake at night expecting Eddie to come to life? When I sleep with “Skullfucked” on my bed, I’m kinda scared — in that good way. This quilt reinterprets a traditional “half-log cabin” design with sinister results. Run to the hills!
