If you’ve ever wondered just how many delicious things can be made with an egg, New York City is about to answer that question in spectacular fashion. The team behind the wildly popular Dragon Fest and Panda Fest is launching an entirely new culinary celebration this summer: Eggcellent Fest, a one-day-only event dedicated to one of the world’s most versatile ingredients.

Taking place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Eggcellent Fest will transform Washington Square North (between University Place and Fifth Avenue) into an immersive egg-themed festival featuring more than 50 egg-inspired dishes from approximately 35 food and merchandise vendors. Best of all, admission is completely free.

The creative force behind the festival is BiuBiu Xu, whose first major project was the wildly popular immersive installation The Egg House. Originally launched in New York in 2018 while Xu was still a student, The Egg House later traveled to Los Angeles, Shanghai, Macau, and Hong Kong before inspiring the creation of Dragon Fest and Panda Fest. Eggcellent Fest marks a return to Xu’s original concept, this time with the focus squarely on food.

Soufflé Pancakes

Visitors can expect an impressive lineup of egg-centric cuisine from around the globe. Among the offerings are fluffy soufflé Pancakes, North African shakshuka, Japanese omurice, classic Eggs Benedict, Hong Kong-style egg waffles, creative desserts, specialty drinks, and plenty of surprises. Most menu items will be priced between $10 and $20, making it easy to sample several different dishes throughout the day. Participating vendors include Na Tart and Little Cheeks by Fish Cheeks, one of New York City’s favorite Thai restaurants.

Of course, Eggcellent Fest isn’t just about eating. The organizers are leaning fully into the theme with a 15-foot inflatable egg installation, whimsical photo opportunities, adorable egg mascots, exclusive merchandise, and complimentary egg-shaped balloons for the first 500 attendees. It sounds like the kind of event that’s tailor-made for social media — and for anyone who appreciates food with a healthy serving of fun.

Although this inaugural event is being presented as a one-day pilot, the organizers hope it will eventually become a traveling national festival. If New Yorkers show up in force — and judging by the city’s love of food festivals, they almost certainly will — Eggcellent Fest could soon be popping up in cities across the country.
