If you’ve ever wondered just how many delicious things can be made with an egg, New York City is about to answer that question in spectacular fashion. The team behind the wildly popular Dragon Fest and Panda Fest is launching an entirely new culinary celebration this summer: Eggcellent Fest, a one-day-only event dedicated to one of the world’s most versatile ingredients.

Taking place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Eggcellent Fest will transform Washington Square North (between University Place and Fifth Avenue) into an immersive egg-themed festival featuring more than 50 egg-inspired dishes from approximately 35 food and merchandise vendors. The humble sandwich is a universal comfort food. It’s the quick lunch you pack for work, the easy meal you grab on the go, and the satisfying bite you crave at midnight. But beyond the familiar combination of sliced bread and deli meat lies a vibrant world of culinary creativity. Nearly every culture has its own version of fillings tucked inside some kind of bread, each telling a unique story of its origin.

Beyond the Familiar Bun

When you think of a sandwich, you might picture two slices of square bread. But the concept is much broader and more exciting than that. Many cultures use different vessels to hold their delicious fillings, creating unique textures and flavors. In the Middle East, warm, pillowy pita bread is split open and stuffed with falafel, shawarma, or fresh vegetables. In Mexico, the torta uses a crusty bolillo roll, while tacos and burritos use soft corn or flour tortillas.

In NYC right now, it’s exciting to see  favorite neighborhoods making a post-pandemic comeback. New stores and restaurants are opening everywhere, revitalizing the local economy, and getting us all pumped-up for a fun summer in the city. Being a downtown girl, I love seeing what’s new in places like Bleecker Street, in the heart of Greenwich Village, where there’s always something  interesting to discover — especially when it comes to good eats. If you love Indian food as much as I do, please allow me to put Honest, a recently-opened fast casual Indian Vegetarian Restaurant, on your radar.

Honest has a fascinating history: a journey that’s taken this family business from its genesis as a street cart in India to an international chain with over 31 locations in the US, all serving delicious, healthy Indian specialties. Now, Honest has arrived on Bleecker Street, and that’s definitely worth getting excited about.

It’s Big, It’s Gay, It’s Ice Cream!

My pal Lisa over at Skulls & Bacon just turned me on to the joys of The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. According to the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, this purveyor of cold and creamy sweet delights will be in the Union Square vicinity until 6:00 PM this evening, so I m planning on a visit after work. Lisa was raving about the caramelized bacon and chocolate ice-cream sandwich, but I think I may have to go for a Vanilla Soft Serve with Dulce de Leche and Nilla Wafers. Heaven on a cone!
