If you’ve ever wondered just how many delicious things can be made with an egg, New York City is about to answer that question in spectacular fashion. The team behind the wildly popular Dragon Fest and Panda Fest is launching an entirely new culinary celebration this summer: Eggcellent Fest, a one-day-only event dedicated to one of the world’s most versatile ingredients.

Taking place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Eggcellent Fest will transform Washington Square North (between University Place and Fifth Avenue) into an immersive egg-themed festival featuring more than 50 egg-inspired dishes from approximately 35 food and merchandise vendors. Best of all, admission is completely free. Continue reading Get Ready to Crack Up at NYC’s First-Ever Eggcellent Fest

CBD products for pain relief are more popular than ever,  for the simple reasons that they are both highly effective and readily available. But not all CBD creams and topical treatments are created equal; many commercial CBD products are of sub-standard quality. Produced in unregulated factories, these creams and salves may contain adulterating substances, including trace amounts of THC and other undesirable chemicals from hemp grown in foreign countries with questionable farming practices. The good news  is that there’s now a high-quality alternative line of CBD products on the market.

Just in time for National CBD Day (August 8th) I’ve been introduced to AmourCBD, the first FDA registered CBD cream, made from the best quality and medical-grade ingredients. Most importantly, AmourCBD products contain no THC, the psychoactive substance in cannabis and, to a lesser extent, in hemp, which means it’s safe to use and safe to travel with.

Cass McCombs – “Brighter!” featuring Karen Black from Hector Savage on Vimeo.

Wow, what could be a more fitting and fantastic tribute to the late great actress, Karen Black (who passed away on August 8th, 2013) than this video of her singing the song “Brighter” accompanied by guitarist Cass McCombs, who’s playing his guitar before a montage of her film clips? Even better, the video was directed by the Black’s husband, director Stephen Eckelberry. Wow.

Happy Birthday, Rikki Rockett!

“Don’t Hate Me Because I Lie About My Age”

Poison drummer, animal rights activist and chain-smoking vegan Rikki Rockett (Born Richard Allan Ream) celebrates a birthday today, having been born on August 8th, 1959. The last time I was on the phone with Rikki – and I admit this was a few years ago – and the subject of age came up, he insisted that he was two years younger than me. Which, no. Gee whiz. It’s one thing to lie about your age to the press, but it’s extremely bad form to lie when that member of the press is supposedly a friend. So, Happy Birthday, Rikki! And just keep in mind that as long as this thing called the Internet exists, people who know how to use the Google will always be able to call you out!
