Finally, someone is offering a perk to those who got vaccinated before it was being incentivized with cash payments. As the country continues to scale Covid-19 vaccinations, Krispy Kreme has found a way to show support for those who are protecting themselves and others by getting vaccinated. For me, staying healthy was incentive enough, but it’s nice to be acknowledged for doing the right thing . Here’s the deal:
For one week only, 8/30 – 9/5/21, anyone who shows their Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card at any US-based Krispy Kreme location will receive two free doughnuts: an Original Glazed doughnut and an Original Glazed Heart-shaped doughnut. If you are feeling generous, you might offer your heart-shaped doughnut to a friend, though I am pretty sure I would eat both doughnuts myself. Because free donuts.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this past week that the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) will be a New York City COVID-19 vaccination site beginning immediately. You can now get yourself vaccinated under the monumental Blue Whale model located in the Museum’s iconic Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. Just think, you will be the envy of your Instagram feed!

Geoffrey and I were sitting on a bench outside of a boutique sandwich shop located at the south west corner of Rivington and Norfolk Streets. This was on Wednesday night at about 6:00 PM. We were waiting to cross the street and check out an opening at Sloan Fine Art Gallery, and we did not want to appear too eager. As Geoffrey was sitting to my left and facing east, he suddenly punctuated our conversation with the phrase, “I think that guy across the street is giving away donuts.” It does not take much more than that to get my attention. I turned to see a man standing just outside the entrance to Schiller’s Liquor Bar, at the south east corner of the intersection, holding a neatly stacked tower of donuts on a silver cake plate.
We made haste to cross the street in his direction. “Are you giving away these donuts?” Geoffrey asked the man? “Yes, something something blah blah free donuts,” the man replied. So, Geoffrey and I each took one of the donuts, which were the old fashioned, plain cake donuts, sprinkled liberally with cinnamon and sugar, and still tasting quite fresh and moist. Yummy! Free Donuts! New York City!
On This Date, March 19th in 1982: Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist Randy Rhoads died in a plane crash in Leesburg, FL when the plane crashed into Osbourne’s tour bus. The pilot Andrew Aycock – who caused the crash by trying to “buzz” the top of the bus as a prank – and hairdresser Rachel Youngblood were also killed. Rhoads was 25 years old.
Free guitarist Paul Kossoff also died on this day in 1976, also at age 25, after suffering a drug-related heart attack while on a flight to Los Angeles. RIP to two great young talents lost way too soon.
