I wonder if Cincinnati’s Tweens realize how much their awesome song “Be Mean” sounds like 1979-era Buzzcocks as fronted by Lydia Lunch. Does vocalist/guitarist Bridget Battle even know who Lydia Lunch is? Who Cares?! These kids rock!

Video Clip of The Week: GHXST, “Dead Town”
Hey what’s up, I think I just coined the label for a new music genre: Death Grunge. Has it been taken yet? Find out and let me know, otherwise I’m claiming ownership. NYC based rock trio, GHXST’s new clip for “Dead Town” fits right in with the vibe of Video Clip or of the Week for reasons that take too long to talk about. But what I will offer is that this song sounds just like the haunting soundtrack to 3-minute movie of the same name, and it definitely would have been ideally suited for coloring the oh-so-darkening mood of HBO’s recently completed crime drama series True Detective. “All Night Dead Town.” I love it. Visit GHXST’s FaceBook page at This Link. Enjoy!
Video Clip of The Week: The Griswolds “Red Tuxedo”
This song reminds me of going to Prom if Prom had been a halfway decent memory for me. See how many pop culture icons you can spot in this lovely and whimsical video by The Griswolds for their very sweetly romantic and nostalgia inducing song, “Red Tuxedo.” Find out more about The Griswolds at their FaceBook page, found at This Link! Enjoy!
Video Clip of The Week: Painted Palms, “Forever”
This song here is what you call a Guilty Pleasure, because while the song “Forever” is super groovy in an electronic-version-of-The Beatles kind of way, I also just like looking at this guy’s face. I enjoy watching him dip his arms shoulder-deep in black paint and fling it all over — sexy — and cavort with an antlered deer skull. Plus the cheesy Tron-esque video effects evoke a profoundly nostalgic feeling for that seriously underrated film. Continue reading Video Clip of The Week: Painted Palms, “Forever”
Video Clip of The Week: Tough Age, “I Waste Too Much Time on Myself”
Wake Up! Who says that instrumental tracks have to be mellow? Bah! Canadian garage rockers Tough Age know how to bring in a classic Psychobilly edge to propel the sonic locomotive that is “I Waste Too Much Time on Myself” — a song with no discernible vocals that manages to rock like a bastard while entertaining visually with ghostly images of figures performing martial arts moves, accompanied by instructional messages written in Japanese Kanji. Somehow, it all works!
Tough Age’s debut, self-titled LP is out now on Mint Records. Enjoy!
