As the first official snowfall of the season accumulates on the streets of Manhattan, thousands of what I like to call “Frat Santas” have descended on our fair Metropolis to participate in the annual Pub Crawl ritual known euphemistically as SantaCon. Dressed in the manner of Santa Claus (give or take a White Beard or Red Hat) these people have only one goal: to get as wasted as possible while disguised as Jolly Old St. Nick. Be forewarned: As you navigate the sidewalks and gutters, be wary of spontaneously created piles of fresh yellow snow and be extra careful not to slip in the Times Square Eggnog!

Photos From Lady Gaga’s ArtPop Pop Up Boutique & Gallery NYC!
Today, November 11th, 2013 marks the release of Lady Gaga’s latest CD, ArtPop. The disc is most notable not so much for its musical ear-worm dancefloor-friendly shenanigans as it is for the artwork that graces the cover: a sculpture of a nude Gaga with a Gazing Ball between her legs, which was designed by Jeff Koons, one of the wealthiest and most successful contemporary artists in America. Confession: the fact that Lady Gaga managed to collaborate with Jeff Koons is the only reason I am paying any attention to this album.

Lou Reed, Dead at 71

Portrait of Lou Reed by Chuck Close Tile Mosaic in Q Subway Station at 86th Street and 2nd Avenue NYC(Photo By Gail)
Lou Reed, a pioneering and wildly influential rock guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, passed away today, October 27th, 2013 in NYC. Although Reed just underwent a liver transplant in May of this year, the cause of death appears to be liver failure. Very sad. Reed was 71 years old. Rolling Stone has a career comprehensive Obituary and This Link. Favorite Lou Reed Songs: “Perfect Day” and “Satellite of Love.” RIP.
Video Clip of The Week: Cut Copy, “Free Your Mind”
I love 80s Dance Music as much as anyone, but something I enjoy just slightly more than that is looking at actor Alexander Skarsgard in various states of undress. Cut Copy’s new video for their awesome song, “Free Your Mind” satisfies in both of those categories. In this video, Skarsgard plays an enigmatic spiritual leader, based in a beautiful paradise retreat, who’s guiding a group of followers to ‘free their minds’ in various ways. I love that Cut Copy turn out a transcendent groove while actually remembering to do the song. It is even worth enduring Skarsgard’s bad wig to see him flaunt his shirtless, smoking hot body in a pair of tighty whities. “Free Your Mind” is the title song to Cut Copy’s fourth album, due out November 5th, 2013 on Loma Vista/Modular Records. Enjoy!
