You can see what seems like a thousand different interpretations of Robert De Niro as the character Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver — a film I really did not enjoy all that much — this weekend only at Scorsese: A Tribute Art Show at Bold Hype Gallery in Chelsea. Geoffrey and I waited in line for 45 minutes (another first!) to get into the opening reception last night, and inside the gallery it was more packed than a can of sardines, as you’ll see in the photo below:

Pop singer Katy Perry and  Twilight star Kristen Stewart are reportedly fighting over a plum role in an upcoming movie about the life of flamboyant Queen front man Freddie Mercury. According to a recent article, the pair are both vying against Lady Gaga for the role of Mary Austin, Mercury’s lifelong best friend and confidante with whom he had a romantic relationship in the ’70s.

Victor Spinetti, who was an established British film star in 1963 when he agreed to make a movie with a pop group called The Beatle,, died on Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 in London, of cancer. He was 82 years old. Spinetti was the only actor besides the four Beatles to appear in the films A Hard Day’s Night, Help! and Magical Mystery Tour.
