How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love Justin Bieber: A Music Industry Insider Ponders The Decline Of Popular Music

(A Guest Blog By Terry Douglas)

I really think the moment the “music died” (popular/rock based music) was the day that Kurt Cobain (or whoever killed him!) blew his brains out. Now, allow me a moment (hopefully not being too long winded and redundant) to give you an abbreviated, yet somewhat concise opinion of how we got to where we are now… Continue reading How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love Justin Bieber: A Music Industry Insider Ponders The Decline Of Popular Music →

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Snag Golden Globe Nomination for The Social Network

The Golden Globe nominations were announced today, which is always exciting because it gives you some insight as to what to expect for the Oscar noms a little ways down the road. In the Best Original Score category, I was pleased to see Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross included for the skull-splittingly brilliant soundtrack they penned for The Social Network – my pick for Best Picture of The Year. Congrats, Trent and Atticus, and good luck on awards night!

Video of the Day: Aldo Nova’s “Fantasy”

In honor of singer/guitarist Aldo Nova’s birthday today (11/13), the Worley Gig is excited to bring you the video for his band’s awesome hit song “Fantasy” – a hot mess of ’80s metal cheesiness. Everything gets going at about the 1:20 point, so feel free to fast forward until you can see Aldo break down the door of a locked warehouse with laser beams shooting from the neck of his guitar. Innovative! I especially love Aldo’s form-fitting, leopard print bodysuit, which I would surely be wearing right this minute if I had his figure.  Seriously, can you believe rock stars ever dressed like that? I sure do miss it. I also love the part where the girls in the audience mob the stage, because they cannot resist Aldo’s hotness. So, happy birthday Aldo, and thanks for offering us your words to ponder, “life is just a fantasy, can you live this fantasy life?”

Alternative Press 25th Anniversary Show At Sloan Fine Art

Starting today, the Sloan Fine Art Gallery on the lower east side is hosting the Alternative Press 25th Anniversary Art Exhibition for three days only! I realize that all of the indie rock hipsters are busy with CMJ crap this week, but I attended the opening party  last night and can assure you that  this exhibit is definitely worth your time to run over and check it out between your showcases and random pukefests.  For this special exhibition, the gallery’s rear room has been transformed with tons of cool photographs, milestones and memoirs from the Alternative Press archives while the main gallery highlights original artworks from artists/musicians who have been featured in the magazine over the years. It was sweetly nostalgic  for me, looking through everything and remembering way back when Trent Reznor used to get me all hot and bothered and I could stand to listen to a Nine Inch Nails CD for more that 30 seconds. Good times.
