Street Artist BD White painted a few of his Astronauts on Bowery just south of East Second Street. This one is my favorite.
This week’s Video Clip tells the story of a Spaceman on a lonely mission, courtesy of the song “Wings” by Milwaukee-based folk band Field Report. I have been watching a lot of Space Adventure movies lately, such as Last Days on Mars and Europa Report — although this animated video tale has more of a Silent Running or Moon feel to it — and I love the way the sparse tune really drives the narrative of the video and keeps you engaged in the story.
“Wings” can be found on Field Report’s sophomore album, Marigolden, which was released November of 2014 on Partisan Records. Enjoy!
Last Thursday, Stephen Romano Gallery lured me away from my familiar haunts in the Chelsea Gallery District all the way to DUMBO, Brooklyn for its new group exhibition, Mysterium Cosmographicum, featuring works from over 30 international artists on the theme of the artist’s relationship to the cosmos. Seriously, how could you stay away from that? I’d been invited to the opening reception by one of my favorite local artists, Eric Richardson (I am proud to own two of his paintings in my collection) but I was super excited once I got to the gallery to see both Colin Christian and Kris Kuksi, two other fantastic artists whose work I always like to support, participating in the show.
As the Sun moves officially into the Sign of Aquarius on January 20th, it’s wildly appropriate to post this truly visually groundbreaking video for “I’m Aquarius” from Britain’s modern pop act, Metronomy. This song speaks to me on one level because I, too, am an Aquarius. But more than this very catchy song that reminds of me of something you might hear from MGMT or Beck, the video itself is just ridiculously great. It’s like Kubrick’s 2001: a Space Odyssey in a four minute video. Insane. “I’m Aquarius” is from Metronomy’s upcoming new album, Love Letters, which will be released on March 11th, 2014 on Elektra Records (Yeah, Baby!). Enjoy!
