Pink Thing of The Day: Cotton Candy Padded Cell

Food Artist Jennifer Rubell created this super clever Padded Cell made of Cotton Candy, and isn’t it fantastic looking? Padded Cell was presented as part of The Red Party 2011 biennial fund-raising dinner thrown by Nonprofit arts organization Performa, held November 6, 2010 at SIR Stage37 event center in NYC. Jennifer’s Website introduces the following artist statement as to what Padded Cell is all about:

Padded Cell is an 8’X16’ freestanding room constructed of basic building materials, with a single door that contains a plexiglass window. Inside, the walls and ceiling are padded with pink cotton candy and a bare light bulb hangs in the center. The door is opened at 9pm, but the interior is visible through the window throughout the evening. The Red Party’s main dinner is served inside a Russian-themed constructivist set (Note: photos at the links above and below) and Padded Cell acts as an escape from that, an all-American funhouse that is at the same time confining, threatening, claustrophobic. It is an object that addresses the dark side of pleasure, the price of pleasure, the possibility that pleasure is its own punishment. Approximately 1,600 cones of cotton candy are used in its construction.

Pink Thing of The Day: Nicki Minaj Pink Friday Cover Art

Nicki Minaj is a rapper whom I have never heard of before in my life until this morning, when Geoffrey emailed me a photo he took of the cover art for her upcoming album, Pink Friday (drops 11/23/10), which he saw plastered on a random, graffiti-covered wall somewhere downtown. Apparently Ms. Minaj is the single most popular female rapper in the Universe. How did I miss that? I don’t doubt that her “music” would not be my thing, but I’m sure we can agree that this is a nice photo of a lady wearing a hot pink wig and impressive platform shoes, and a lovely sentiment, as well. Pink Friday!

Pink Thing Of The Day: Pink LEGO Motorcycle Ridden By Miss Piggy!

A Hog On A Hog

LEGO sculptures sure are a hot item lately. LEGO fetishist website Brothers Brick just posted pictures of a super detailed figure of Miss Piggy riding a motorcycle that goes a long way towards showing you the limitless creative possibilities when you have box of LEGOs and an imagination. Brothers Brick also has additional links to a commentary page on the Miss Piggy figure as well as a well-documented construction journal with detailed photos showing the building process. According to the site, Piggy’s motorcycle “is the most pink I’ve seen in a fan-built creation.” Nice!

Thanks to Ian For the Tip!

Pink Thing of The Day: Peaco Clip On UglyDoll

This is my Ugly Doll, Peaco. I got her for $7 at Ricky’s on Third Avenue and now she lives in my bag that I take with me everywhere. So if you see me on the street carrying my big black Sephora bag with the skulls all over it, please ask to say Hi to Peaco, because she is very shy, but likes making friends.
