Bob Welch sang lead vocals on “Hypnotized” and “Silver Heels”: the two best Fleetwood Mac songs, ever, pre-Buckingham Nicks. And now he’s dead. Welch’s body was found by his wife in their home in Antioch, TN earlier today (June 7, 2012) with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. It is reported that he had been suffering from deteriorating health. Welch would have been 66 years old on July 31st.

Please enjoy this clip of Bob singing “Hypnotized” from the album Mystery to Me. RIP Bob Welch!

Man, this is some sad news right here. Adam Yauch, founding member of the legendary Beastie Boys, has passed away today, May 4th, 2012 after hard fought three year battle with cancer. The rapper, also known as MCA, was 47 years old. In addition to his talent as a rapper and musician, Yauch was also a filmmaker who, under the pseudonym Nathanial Hornblower, directed many of The Beastie Boys’ videos, including the 2006 Beastie Boys concert film Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That! Yauch is survived by his wife Dechen Wangdu, and their daughter. Rest in peace.

Musician and Actor Levon Helm (Born Mark Lavon Helm), best known as the Drummer for The Band, has passed away on April 19, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 71 years old. I was fortunate to see Levon play drums once, during a taping of the the short-lived Sundance TV Show, Spectacle, which was hosted by Elvis Costello. Levon appeared on the Build a Band episode, where he was joined by fellow musical legends such as Nick Lowe, Richard Thompson and Allen Toussaint. What an amazing set those guys put together! The East Portland Blog has an excellent Obit and remembrance of Levon’s life at This Link that’s both heartfelt and extremely compelling. Worth checking out even, or perhaps especially, if you didn’t know much about him. RIP, Levon. You will be missed.
