I’ve lived in this east village neighborhood for over 30 years, and I don’t recall ever seeing a public artwork at the corner of 14th Street and Avenue A, let alone anything as monumental as this Beastie Boys mural by the legendary Shepherd Fairey. I first noticed the mural at 7:00 AM on the morning of October 4th as I approached the L train stop. This is what it looked like on that morning: Continue reading Posse In Effect Beastie Boys Mural By Shepard Fairey

MCA Beastie Boys Mural on East 7th Street
This nice homage to the late Adam Yauch, AKA MCA of The Beastie Boys, was spotted by me one afternoon as I was walking home. I am not sure how long it has been up, but it is at least the fifth such mural in a series created to honor Yauch — who died of cancer on May 4th, 2012, at age 47— that’s inhabited this exact location on some kind of heavily-chained door. You can see a few of the other past murals at This Link. The artist is Cramcept. I have no idea what’s behind the door.
The Where Have You Been MCA Mural is Located on the South Side of East 7th Street Just West of First Avenue in NYC’s East Village.

RIP Beastie Boy Adam Yauch
Man, this is some sad news right there. Adam Yauch, founding member of the legendary Beastie Boys, has passed away today, May 4th, after hard fought three year battle with cancer. The rapper, also known as MCA, was 47 years old. In addition to his talent as a rapper and musician, Yauch was also a filmaker who, under the psuedonym Nathanial Hornblower, directed many of The Beastie Boys’ videos, including the 2006 Beastie Boys concert film Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That! Yauch is survived by his wife Dechen Wangdu, and their daughter. Rest in peace.
