On this date in 1977: The Vibrators released their third single, “Baby Baby,” backed by “Into The Future.” Both songs appeared on the band’s debut fantastic album, Pure Mania, which remains one of my favorite albums of all time, to this day. The album also included the track, “Stiff Little Fingers” – the song from which the band Stiff Little Fingers took its name. The London punk band has gone through numerous lineup changes but is still active, with lead singer Knox and drummer, Eddie, still present from the original band.
Rick Wakeman, enigmatic and Arthurian keyboard player for Yes, was born on this day, May 18th, in 1949. Favorite massively overwrought Wakeman-era keyboard riff from a song by Yes: the climax to “Heart of The Sunrise.”Wakeman also appeared as Thor in the 1975 Ken Russell-directed Film, Lisztomania. Happy Birthday, Rick!
Those of you who have a lot of stuff and junk gathering dust in your closets, garages, basements and attics might want to do a little house cleaning and see if your unwanted memorabilia could bring you a few bucks. This vintage, silk top hat orignally owned by Alice Cooper drummer Neal Smith and formerly worn by both Alice and Neal on the band’s School’s Out tour in 1972 just sold on eBay for over $1700!
Nothing says, “I Love The Seventies!” quite like this photo of Vincent Gallo, which was sent to me this morning by some dude I know, whom I believe secretly wishes to beVincent Gallo. Which reminds me, I finally saw The Brown Bunny last summer and it’s definitely worth adding to your Netflix queue, not only for its great Gordon-Lightfoot-song-including soundtrack, but also for the chance to see Vincent Gallo’s junk, which is quite impressive.
’70s Rock God Punky Meadows and His World Famous Pout
I just about lost my mind the other day when I accidentally tripped over Punky Meadows’ Myspace Page! Back in the ’70s, where all of the best music comes from, Punky was the guitarist for the progressive, glam-metal, pomp rock band, Angel. These days he apparently lives comfortably in the past and runs a tanning salon. Myspace is the greatest thing ever!
