Spring has sprung, and the cherry blossoms are in serious bloom out front of the Brooklyn Museum, where from now until July 8th you can see an exciting retrospective on the early career of the late Keith Haring. Here in downtown NYC, especially, Haring’s humorous yet socially provocative, instantly recognizable pop art images are enduring and almost ubiquitous even 22 years after his death. I’ve always been attracted to Keith’s clever line drawings and the sense of humor inherent in his work, but it wasn’t until I watched Christina Clausen’s 2008 documentary The Universe of Keith Haring (rent it on Netflix) that I realized what a true visionary and genius he was. John Lennon: 31 Years Gone

“So Long Ago…”

John Lennon was murdered 31 years ago today. I found this really cool video on Youtube which is a tribute to John and The Beatles sound tracked by John’s 1974 single, “#9 Dream” – which is my very favorite song from John’s solo career. Please enjoy remembering John today.

So it’s not surprising, really, that Main Man Records has compiled what can only be called the definitive Runaways tribute compilation; a two disc set called Take It Or Leave It. All you need to know is that this record fucking rocks. Continue reading Recommended Listening: Take It Or Leave It, A Tribute to The Runaways

Must See Art: Tribute To The Haunted Mansion Group Art Show!

As a huge, geeky fan of Disney’s The Haunted Mansion ride and all folklore and legend surrounding it, I would literally die and come back from the dead to be able to see a group art show that opened this past Saturday in Los Angeles; A Tribute To The Haunted Mansion. Seriously, I can’t even live. This second annual group show, where artists interpret themes from the ride, features William Basso, Brian Boskind, The Creep, Curioddities, Dienzo, Asia De Vinyl, Frank Dietz, Darren Frydendall, Hideousboi, Noah K, Abigail Larson, Bob Lizarraga, Eric Pigors, Queenie, John Rozum, Bill Rude, Dan Szczepanski, Richard Terpstra and Zombienose among others. Judging from the video below, it looks totally amazing!
