You have just one more week to see one of the most fun exhibits currently showing in NYC: TT Underground’s Crazy Monsters Art Show. Crazy Monsters features nearly 200 pieces of original artwork by 19 artists who mix humor with horror in their various portraits of monsters both fresh and famous.

My favorites included three very clever portraits by artist Jason Edmiston, entitled “Tommy,” “Joey” and “Axl” which depicted outrageously hideous monsters, each of whom had styled themselves in the characteristic and instantly recognizable accessories of Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, Joey Ramone and Axl Rose, respectively. These three portraits, at $2,500 apiece, are also among the more expensive works in the exhibit, where many of the canvases are priced for collectors at between $50 and $350. This was also my first time visiting the TT Underground Gallery, which is a huge renovated space that serves as a great showcase for this unique collection. After checking out the show, be sure to spend time in the Toy Tokyo store at ground level, where they have a fantastic collection of Ron English collectible vinyl figures, among many other cool items for sale.
Crazy Monsters is on Exhibit through May 15th at TT Underground Gallery, Located at 91 Second Avenue Near 5th Street (Under Toy Tokyo) NYC. Gallery Hours are Tuesday – Sunday from 2:00-7:00 PM
