On the north side of the intersection where 14th Street crosses both 9th Avenue and Hudson Street (just across the street from the Apple Store), there’s a triangle-shaped plaza that currently appears to be under construction. For what, who can say. But the concrete barriers that border the space support a chain-link fence which is wrapped on all sides in vibrant, multi colored images of Ronnnie Rabbbit; the three eyed, three-eared mutant rabbit character created by Popaganda artist Ron English.
What is Ronnnie hiding? Please leave your clues in the comments!
The last couple of times I passed by the Popaganda Pop Up Store on the corner of Washington and Gansevoort Streets in the meatpacking district, the shop was closed. So I’m not sure if it’s closed for good, or was just not open for business on those days. But anyway, that’s where I saw this cow.
If you dig the art of Ron English, and you also like to smoke weed, put down the bong for a minute and read on. English is taking his signature Popaganda brand and teaming up with High Times Magazines’ newly established Lifestyle & Apparel division to create a line of merchandise you can buy both online and at a pop up retail boutique and art gallery, opening in lower Manhattan on Tuesday, October 25th.
For the pop up Cannabis Bodega, Ron English takes his signature brand-parody style and gives it a cannabis twist. Think: a KFC container that says THC, or the words Shredded Weed emblazoned on a Shredded Wheat cereal box. Oh, the cleverness.
And, I think I know where all of these photos were taken: Right Here!
I am guessing that they will also have Ron’s art, and hilarious art toys, on sale in the store as well. Find out more about Popaganja, and (if you’re not in Manhattan and can’t make it into the shop), buy stuff online at This Link.
The Ron English x High Times Popaganja Pop Up Cannabis Bodega Will be Open From October 25th until November 8th, 2016 at The Wood Shoppe, Located at 147 Orchard Street, LES, NYC.
Artist Ron English is now selling his Popaganda merchandise in a Pop Up storefront at the corner of 72 Gansevoort Street and Washington Street in the Meatpacking District. This collectible art toy figure of his Dinogrenade character in bright, shocking Pink sells for $70.00. Get ’em while they’re hot!
Rock Band Guernica By Ron English (All Photos By Gail)
Allouche Gallery is currently hosting the first major exhibit in their beautiful new home in the Meatpacking District — and what a way kick things off! Guernica features the debut of eighteen new paintings by contemporary Pop and street artist, Ron English.
Mythological Guernica
The series, which took two years to complete, references the artist’s own narrative to Pablo Picasso’s renowned Guernica, painted in 1937. English utilizes the Guernica template to relay powerful messages about the endless cycles of creation and destruction through the use of his globally recognized imagery and iconography.
Flintstones Guernica
It is great fun to see how English — who is a genius at manipulating pop culture icons and tropes — fluidly riffs on Guernica to include everything from The Flintstones to Star Wars to Guitar Hero.

Ron was present at the opening reception, and he is always very gracious when it comes to signing and taking photos with fans.

The painting above has the names of popular fast food or fast casual restaurants stenciled just under the images.

Jonathan LeVine Gallery’s Summer Group Show, Cluster, features work by established artists who have previously shown at the gallery, alongside emerging talent making their JLG debut. Each has been allocated space to display clusters of work, a concept that can be approached in many unique ways, and which grants each artist the opportunity to show the full range of their aesthetic.
Art by Ron English
While some have chosen to display groupings of work that are similar or create one large piece surrounded by smaller works, others interpreted the idea of “cluster” and used it as source of inspiration.
Art By Gary Taxali
Similar to an art fair, in which pieces of varying mediums and styles are shown beside each other, Cluster includes sculptures, drawings and paintings by fifteen artists who might not typically be exhibited together, including Amandine Urruty, Anton Vill, Ben Tolman, Charlie Immer, Drew Leshko, Dylan Egon, Gary Mellon, Gary Taxali, Luke O’Sullivan, Marco Mazzoni, Nicomi Nix Turner, Ron English, Sam Gibbons, Smithe One, Tran Nguyen and Troy Coulterman. Let’s check out more photos from the opening reception!

Snake By Amandine Urruty
The complex, surrealist drawings of Amandine Urruty are new to me. I really love the retro-creepiness of her style.
Cluster: A Group Show of Groupings will be on exhibit only through August 20th, 2016 at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Located at 529 West 20th Street. in the Chelsea Gallery District.
While I was in LA for Christmas, I had the chance to not only have a VIP experience at the new Broad Museum (more about that in a future post) but also got to visit the nearby new location of the Corey Helford Gallery, which just re-opened in early December! Corey Helford’s new gallery is massive — seven times larger than the original space — and boasts three separate galleries, each of which can house individual artist and group exhibitions. The main gallery, where you will find Ron English’s incredible show, NeoNature: We Are The New They, takes up 4,500 square feet, offering total immersion for attendees. And considering the size of NeoNature’s paintings and sculptures that is saying something!
Two Ton Sam with Installation View
Giraffasaurus
NeoNature examines the art of evolution, the flaw that propels civilization, as the mutation of the ordinary stubbornly conjures new worlds. Ron English’s mutant creations — some a hybrid of nature and technology — are fascinating, thought provoking, and always very, very beautiful and awe-inspiring to behold.
Dinogrenade
Union Jack Tiger
We were lucky to have the entire gallery almost to ourselves on the afternoon of our visit, which made getting clear, people-free photos very easy! Yay!
I couldn’t find the name of this little guy on the CHG website, so I am calling him Little Green Sprout.
Mousemask Murphy in Airplane
All of the large sculptures are available to purchase in limited editions of 30 pieces per work.
StarSkull Walking Stick
There are two of the StarSkull Walking Stick sculptures in the gallery, which stand like silent sentries on either side of the room, and they are very imposing in size!
Flintstones Origin Story

Bigfoot Family Tableau
The exhibit also includes two tableau installations, which are a bit hidden behind a wall. Fortunately, a very friendly member of the gallery staff tipped us off!
European Camo Doe and Stag Tableau
He also gave us a couple of these cool shot glasses, which were left over from the exhibit’s opening reception. Sweet!
Ron English’s NeoNature: We Are The New They will be on Exhibit only Through January 9th, 2016 at Corey Helford Gallery, Located at 571 South Anderson Street, Los Angeles, CA 90033. Get directions, and gallery hours, at This Link!
