It’s been a few weeks now since I first noticed the Green Monster Hand giving what looks like some kind of a two-finger salute of unknown meaning (I don’t think the fingers are spread apart enough to make it a proper peace sign, but I could be wrong). I can’t say when exactly it went up, but considering I pass by this block (Avenue B between 13th and 14th Streets) almost daily, I think it’s relatively new.
I like it.

Don’t let anyone make the excuse that this is a kids’ camera, because this Hello Kitty face with a lens sticking out of it is a big fucking hunk of camera that is much too unwieldy for tiny child-sized hands. But, whatever; this is a film (not digital) camera manufactured by Fujifilm and you can buy it online at Amazon right now for about $80!

Between 1890 and 1892, Jean-Léon Gerome (1824 – 1904) made both painted and sculpted variations of the theme of Pygmalion and Galatea, the tale recounted in Ovid’s Metamorphoses. All depict the moment when the sculpture of Galatea was brought to life by the goddess Venus, in fulfillment of Pygmalion’s wish for a wife as beautiful as the sculpture he created. This is one of three known versions in oil that are closely related to a polychrome marble sculpture, also fashioned by Gerome (located at Hearst Castle, San Simeon, CA). In each of the paintings, the sculpture appears at a different angle, as though is was being viewed in the round.

Guest stars include a gang of mischievous serpents, a helpful cactus, and a ghost. Oh Boy!
Aurally, “Lost My Way” is mildly spooky, classic 60s-era fuzz-tone punk. What’s not to like? “Lost My Way” can be found lurking on Cheena’s debut album, Spend The Night With, which was released in August on Sacred Bones Records. Enjoy!
