Modern Art Monday Presents: Rockwell Kent, Moonlight, Winter

Moonlight Winter

Rockwell Kent (18821971) was a self-proclaimed wanderer who felt most at home in the wilderness. His artistic and philosophical devotion to nature lead him to explore far-reaching places that served as inspiration for his rugged landscape paintings, as well as several published travelogues.

Moonlight, Winter (1940) depicts the farm in New York’s Adirondack mountains, where Kent eventually settled in 1927. The scene conjures the artist’s vision of a certain — if somewhat distant — harmony between there vastness of the night sky and the quaint shelter of human life.

Photographed in the Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC.

Video Clip of The Week: Cyclone Static, “Company Man”

And this was a reminder to me to never, ever underestimate the pure joy that comes from music that does not sound like it came from a can. Cyclone Static are not magical Wizards. Eye On Design: Angry POTUS Microwave Cleaner

Are you as sick and tired of looking at the likeness of He Who Will Not Be Named as you are of having to clean your dirty microwave oven?  I feel you. Recently, it fell to me to scrub exploded ham off of the interior of the office microwave (don’t get me started) and that was all kinds of not fun. As as much as I dislike being exposed to the face of the one I refer to only as Dump, let me tell you about the Angry POTUS Microwave Cleaner, where two evils come together for a good cause: getting dried crud off of your microwave’s walls while poking fun at the Dump. Win Win! Continue reading Eye On Design: Angry POTUS Microwave Cleaner
