When it comes to eye-catching packaging, vegan-friendly snack brand Popadelics deserves high-fives for a very psychedelic bag design for its Crunchy Mushroom Chips, which I was introduced to at the 2022 Summer Fancy Food Show. While this natural snack boasts a ton of flavor,  it will not make you feel like you are on Acid (sorry stoners). It is, however, a better-for-you alternative to traditional fried chips and snacks, which are full of empty calories and not exactly healthy.

Introduced this past February, Popadelics come in three bold flavors: Trippin’ Truffle Parm, Twisted Thai Chili, and Rad Rosemary and Salt. Purchases of this product support the Fun-Gal Snacks Foundation, a charitable organization from Popadelics’ creators centered on health and wellness causes. Most notably, the foundation supports the Johns Hopkins Center of Psychedelic & Consciousness Research and their exploration for innovative treatments for improved mental health — so that is pretty cool!

I do enjoy crunchy snacks, and Popadelics does not disappoint. To get this signature crunch, they use a unique cooking method for the shiitake mushrooms called vacuum frying, which allows foods to cook at much lower temperatures while absorbing less oil and retaining more of their color, nutrients, texture, and flavor. Popadelics are also a good source of protein and fiber.

Of the three savory flavors, my favorite is the Trippin’ Truffle Parm. I’m a big fan of truffle-flavored anything, but the big surprise here is that while there’s parmesan in the mix, it’s still vegan-friendly. Don’t ask me to reveal their secret.
