When it comes to eye-catching packaging, vegan-friendly snack brand Popadelics deserves high-fives for a very psychedelic bag design for its Crunchy Mushroom Chips, which I was introduced to at the 2022Summer Fancy Food Show. While this natural snack boasts a ton of flavor, it will not make you feel like you are on Acid (sorry stoners). It is, however, a better-for-you alternative to traditional fried chips and snacks, which are full of empty calories and not exactly healthy.
A few exceptional products didn’t quite make it into my massive photo recap of the Summer Fancy Food Show 2022 — mostly because I wanted to save them for their own featured post. When I spotted this teabag bearing the likeness of the late Queen front man Freddie Mercury at the booth for The Teabook Teas, I knew it would need its own showcase. The Men of Konopelski’s Meats and Their Very Cool Hats! (All Photos By Gail)
Over the past few years, I’ve enjoyed covering the slow return of various favorite trade shows, such as the Affordable Art Fair and NY Now while holding-out for what I like to call ‘The Big One.’ Finally, after an absence of two excruciating years, the Summer Fancy Food Show (sponsored by the Specialty Food Association) made what can only be called a triumphant comeback in June of this year. It has taken me this long to distill the experience because, wow, the show was just overwhelming on so many levels.
File Under: Weird Food I found at the Summer Fancy Food Show, which returned to Javits Center in mid-June after a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus. And thank god, right? Because I needed more weird food to feature on this website. Part of Chocolate Storybook’s expansive line of gourmet cotton candy treats, this Maple Bacon Cotton Candy has a smoky-sweet flavor you won’t find anywhere else. You know you want it.
These Pink Jelly Belly candies were photographed while locked inside a glass case surrounding the information desk — creating a color spectrum display — which was part of the company’s booth at the Summer Fancy Food Show, which I attended on June 12th! Whether these Jelly Bellys are Pink Grapefruit of Cotton Candy, or some other flavor entirely, I cannot say. They sure do look pretty, though.
