Ellsworth Kelly’s Colors for a Large Wall, with Fan, at MoMA (All Photos By Gail)
Confession: I am obsessive about taking photographs of art that includes no people in the frame. To achieve this goal requires great patience. There is no telling how long you will need to wait for one or more endlessly dawdling, selfie-snapping, oblivious art fans to GTF out of your way so you can get the shot. It is a character-builder, for sure.
That said, there are times when capturing the infamous ‘Spy Pic’ creates its own work of art! The key skills here are stealth and lightning-fast reflexes. Please enjoy a new selection of my secret snaps of the People of New York and London looking at art from my ever-growing collection!

Young Girl Poses Before Nick Cave’s Tondo at The Guggenheim
This young lady is striking this fabulous pose for one of her parents, but I couldn’t resist sneaking a shot of her myself, because she was working it.

Last August, I vacationed in fabulous London, where I visited ten of the city’s best museums and galleries in ten days. At the Tate Modern, these kids were just laying on the floor looking at the large abstract painting seen here and no one said peep about it. Excellent.

This well-dressed lady, who I spotted at the Tate Britain while exploring an exhibit on the pre-Raphaelite art family, The Rosettis actually busted me mid-snap, so I had to block out her face.
Newport Street Gallery, owned by artist Damien Hirst, is located in a section of London called Vauxhall. When we visited, the multi-floor gallery was hosting the exhibit A Great Light, featuring large-scale stained glass screens by Brian Clarke, who is widely regarded to be the most important artist working in stained glass today. At the center right of this photo, you’ll notice a woman exiting into the adjacent gallery, whose dress matches the pattern of the glass in the screen’s lower panel. Random!
I got a few good spy pics of this couple who were non-stop making-out in the Tate Britain, but this shot is my favorite. Who says art doesn’t put you in the mood? Happy Arting, everyone!
