In Saint Michael Triumphs Over the Devil (1468) the archangel Michael is shown defeating the devil, portrayed as a monstrous part- reptile / part-bat creature. The kneeling figureis Antoni Joan, lord of Tous, whose prayer book is open at two penitential psalms (51 and 130). This painting is the center panel of an alterpiece formerly located in the parish church of Tous, near Valenica, Spain.

There is no telling how long you will need to wait for one or more endlessly dawdling, selfie-snapping, oblivious art fans to GTF out of your way so you can get the shot. It is a character-builder, for sure.

Modern Art Monday Presents: Vincent Van Gogh, Two Crabs
After his January 1889 lease from the hospital in Arles, Vincent Van Gogh embarked on a series of still lifes, including crab studies. This painting my show the same crab upright and on its back. Parallel strokes sculpt the creature’s form on an exuberant, sea-like surface.
