Pink Thing of The Day: Abandoned Pink Teddy Bear

New York City never fails to deliver when it comes to street art — even when it’s unintentional. Case in point: this week’s Pink Thing of the Day, spotted on Avenue B between East 3rd and 4th Streets. Here we find a once-loved, now forsaken Fuzzy Pink Teddy Bear, perched dramatically atop a pile of black garbage bags like a plush monarch surveying its trash kingdom.

The scene gets better. Right next door is Green Line, a local dispensary whose window art features none other than the Joker himself, mid-toke, starring you down as he puffs away. The contrast is almost too perfect: the soft, innocent pink bear cast aside among the refuse, while chaos and vice leer from just a few inches away.

The juxtaposition of childhood nostalgia and adult indulgence, sweetness and subversion, makes this street tableau feel like a ready-made art installation. Was the bear tossed out in a fit of spring cleaning? Or did someone stage this accidental masterpiece as a statement on lost innocence in the big city?

Either way, this Pink Teddy gets its moment of glory as our featured Pink Thing. Long may it reign on its garbage bag throne.
