Street art aficionados know that Freeman Alley is the premier spot on the LES for checking out contemporary street art as it is happening. The alley’s visual landscape of wheat pastes, stickers and stencils changes daily, so I like to head over there a few times a month to see what’s new and share the best discoveries here on the site. It was during a visit in mid-February that I started seeing the art of Goldloxe in a series of paste-ups depicting nearly identical little girls — wearing baby doll dresses, Mary Janes shoes and bobby socks — which are part of her Just a Girl collection. For Goldloxe, these girls are all about “Celebrating unapologetic women who won’t stop pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo.” Heck yeah!

NYC Street Art Fans know that Freeman Alley on the LES is probably the prime location in the city for discovering exciting new pieces from artists who travel from all over to paint and paste-up their latest works in the narrow passageway that leads from Rivington Street to one of the best farm-to-table restaurants in the city.

During the months when galleries and museums were closed, I turned to the galleries of the streets for inspiration, and spent hours each week walking and documenting what I saw. I discovered that many street artists were inspired by the experience of isolation due to Covid, and the increasingly dystopian nature of society imposed by the previous administration, to step-up the surreal nature of their creations. One new artist I kept seeing all over the city, whose work moved me immediately, was called Eye Sticker. Of course, the Eye is Pink.
Eye Sticker (also known as EYE) is an anonymous, gender-unspecified persona whose work often centers on a familiar, pop-culture image distinguished by the inclusion of a bright Pink Eye with an x-shaped iris at its center. The first work I saw by Eye Sticker was a paste up on St. Mark’s Place in the East Village, where I live. The piece depicted Dump as a Troll Doll, with a shock of pink hair and beady pink eyes that looked like those drawn by cartoonists to indicate that a person or animal is deceased. Appropriate, I thought. Continue reading Pink Thing of The Day: The Art of Eye Sticker
Fingers Crossed For a Biden / Harris Victory and a Blue Wave!
Ya Basta! (Art by HeckSign, All Photos By Gail)
While the Worley Gig tries to stay out of politics (for the most part), it is no secret that I am a left-leaning lady who has no love for the Orange Clown in the Whitehouse who’s been destroying our country with his relentless stupidity and corruption for the past four years. I’m so over it. It was my pleasure to wait on line for 2 and 1/2 hours on a Saturday to get my early vote in and get this piece of shit out. Biden / Harris for The Win, Baby.
