London is the only city where I’ve seen rose bushes grow as tall as houses. During a visit to Kew Royal Botanic Gardens, I didn’t even need to crouch to capture this trio of pink roses against a perfect summer sky. If you were in London during the first half of August 2024, you’ll remember the freakish heat wave, with temperatures soaring above 90°F. Just looking at this photo brings back that sweltering glow! In Buddhism, the Lotus symbolizes transcendence, as the flower emerges from stagnant water to bloom in bright colors. Here, the ceramicist Kawase Shinobu uses the clear blue celadon glaze known as seihakuji to capture the spiritual importance of a lotus bud. This vessel is designed to support burning incense sticks, with a lily-pad-shaped saucer to catch the falling ash.

The automotive industry in the United Kingdom really started to develop in the 1910s, with famous brands like Jaguar or Austin, before experiencing its heyday after the Second World War. In the 1950s, the UK was the second largest car producing country in the world, but since the end of the 1980s, everything has changed.
