The Prayer Candles (limited to an edition of 150 of each color) can also be purchased separately for $25 each. Seriously, it’s almost not worth it not to buy the entire set. Han Solo in Carbonite Desk

Tom Spina and Richard Riley of Tom Spina Designs created the Han Solo in Carbonite Desk back in 2008 for the home theater/office of Mark Hall, the lead singer of Grammy Award-winning group Casting Crowns (Who? Exactly).

The metal and fiberglass-resin desk is made from four main components: the glass top, the frozen block and two side supports with lights. The frozen “carbonite” block is a custom fabricated steel block with resin sculpture of the frozen Han Solo. The side supports are machine-cut steel with tinted acrylic sheets and internal lighting. The level of detail is truly amazing. No exact pricing is available as this was a custom creation, but you can always inquire on the Tom Spina Designs Website.

Must See Art: Michael Leavitt’s Empire Peaks

Abraham Lincoln as Han Solo

File this one under “Must See Art” because you won’t want to miss Michael Leavitt’s latest exhibit at Jonathan Levine Gallery, entitled Empire Peaks. Continuing with the theme he did to perfection with Art Army Royalty back in 2011, Leavitt’s latest collection of  what could loosely be called pop culture action figures takes a Star Wars theme and turns that wildly popular franchise’s characters into recognizable icons of history, politics and entertainment. The show is totally off the hook! Even if you’re not  a total Star Wars geek  (raises hand) you’re going to enjoy the high-quality representations of some very recognizable individuals, both real and fictional.

Sacred Gallery Presents Re-Thrifted

Rethrifted Elephant Sculpture

The idea of “repurposing” — taking something old and giving it a new life — is an exciting concept that creates a world of possibilities. Sacred Gallery explores those possibilities (with an inclination towards the darker side of imagination and reality) with a highly amusing new group exhibit entitled Re-Thrifted. To create Re-Thrifted more than two dozen artists started with Thrift Store art finds and recreated the original piece as a new work of art. There are both paintings and sculptures in the exhibit and it was so much fun to view the show and compare the new artworks to their more humble beginnings, as many of the pieces are hung alongside tiny prints showing the pieces that inspired their genesis.
