Whether this is a pink pool or a beach with pink sand (and either way, I do realize it’s a Photoshop job), isn’t this just a lovely, summertime image? Love it.
Seagram’s Escapes is an amazingly delicious line of flavored Malt Beverages (Read: Fruit Flavored Beer) that reminds me of those Bartles & Jaymes Wine Coolers I used to get so wasted on back when I was in College.
The brand has been around for years, but they introduce new flavors every so often to keep things lively. Earlier this year, they sent me a four pack of their recently introduced Blackberry Breezer flavor. These tall, slender bottles of tasty beverage have been chilling in my fridge, while I waited for the weather to get warm and sunny enough that I could take them out to my front porch and photograph them. But I was also awaiting the seasonal onset of summery weather that inspires one to lounge hedonistically by a pool and drink fruity beverages. That day came today.
Blackberry Breezer tastes like Blackberry and Pear juice mixed together and it goes down very smooth. Unless you weigh less than 100 pounds, it takes at least two to get a decent buzz, but they taste so fruity, light and refreshing that maybe this will not be your go-to beverage to get slammed. Maybe save that for the vodka and cranberry juice.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Preferred Adult Beverage for the Summer of 2013 is Here.
There is really nothing like other people’s FaceBook pages for providing awesome things to put on this blog. The above photo was taken by my friend Melinda inside a bar at the O2 Arena in London, UK after she attended a basketball event during the recent 2012 summer Olympics. Melinda confirms that this eye-popping sculpture of hanging globes in varying pink hues is purely decorative and not an actual light fixture. It sure does remind me of this thing here. Want.
One of my favorite things about summer is wearing my sandals as often as possible so I can rock a pedicure featuring the most vibrant Hot Pink nail color I can find. If you were fortunate enough to get a peek inside my bathroom cabinet, you would see a shelf stocked with various shades of pink, purple, magenta and fuchsia shades of nail color in sparkly and mat finishes — because even though I like to dwell in the pink domain, I do like to change it up. Pink. Nail Polish. I am all about it.
Now, you are probably not going to even believe that this is even possible, but earlier this week I was invited to a party thrown by (Smart. Beautiful.) Maybelline to announce / celebrate the launch of their new line of Nail Lacquer called Color Show, that not only included free food and alcohol, but also free manicures! Color Show! Inspired by the colors and textures of the runway, Color Show comes in about a gazillion shades of the spectrum, from creamy to shimmery to glittery, but most importantly lots of shades of pink!
For my complimentary manicure (which included a hand massage — omg) I chose a lacquer shade called Crushed Candy, which is a glittery, sparkly Hot Pink Fuchsia that looks so fantastic on my nails I simply cannot stop looking at my hands. Seriously, I am looking at them right now! Two coats covered my nails with a bright pink coat of shiny awesomeness, but then I put an extra coat on because I wanted to add a little extra on the tips of my nails, which is a good hint to extend a manicure when you use your hands as much as I do. As of right now my manicure is just over 36 hours old and I don’t have a single chip despite the fact that I type on a computer keyboard all day long.
Maybelline gave everyone at the party the super cool gift of a small make up case filled with 32 generous sample shades of Color Show. Please enjoy the anticipation of the gradual reveal!
There it is on the bed…
This is so exciting!
Look at all of these colors!
It’s Like Christmas! And these aren’t even all the colors!
These gorgeous colors are going to tempt me to stray from the pink, I can feel it. Thanks, Maybelline!
Oh man, these are cool looking cupcakes, am I right? Wouldn’t they be super fun to serve at a 4th of July BBQ, especially when everyone thinks they are snow cones, but then they don’t melt. Fun! Complete detailed baking and decorating directions, with photos of each step, can be found at This Link! Happy Baking!
Thanks to Neatorama For The Tip!
I can’t wait until Summer!
A couple of weeks back, a FaceBook friend posted the innocent-but-completely-clueless observation, “What happened to summer?” into her newsfeed. And I was like, “(Friend’s Name) summer has been over for awhile now.” Because, fall. Fall! It’s not hot out anymore, but it’s also not really cold yet: it’s just time to unpack all the comfy sweaters and light outerwear from wherever you store it (me = the closet). Wearing shorts and flip flops is heretofore declared inappropriate!
If you are one of those folks who must be dragged kicking and screaming into the seasonal weather transitions, you can try keeping summer alive for a bit longer by visiting a fun and rather “hidden away” venue that I experienced for the first time just last night, called The Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club. Located on the north side of the Pier 17 mall, this unique outdoor establishment, which opened in June 2011, has maintained the “sandy beach” motif of its predecessor (the confusingly named Water Taxi Beach), and it also features a covered area where you’ll find long communal tables for dining and drinking, Pool and other and games. But let’s get real: the beach is where it’s at.

Grab a beer, cocktail or glass of wine from the recycled driftwood bar (they also have a delicious hot apple cider with rum that I will recommend), find a place to sit, and just relax from your long day. Views of the Brooklyn Bridge are spectacular and you can even keep track of how long you’ve been drinking courtesy of the digital clock attached to the glowing red Watchtower sign just across the river. Convenient! Now that a wee chill is in the air, clusters of illuminated, white plastic love seats (quite sturdy, and not entirely dissimilar to this thing here) have been strategically arranged around crackling fire pits to keep you warm and smelling like a campfire once you head home. We enjoyed a variety of passed party snacks courtesy of our host that included burger sliders, gooey cheese puffs, mini bratwursts, tiny crab cakes with mango salsa and something involving puff pastry, warm brie, toasted almonds and apricot jam that was just out of control. You can view the full menu of Beekman’s traditional beer garden favorites at This Link.
Close Up of Those Illuminated Love Seats
While I am not much for hanging out in the bright sun, the beach at night is magical. And the beach at night in NYC on the edge of the river is like another world. I mean, how cool will you sound when you tell your friends that in the middle of October you went to an outdoor bar/restaurant with a little beach where you sat around a campfire on chairs that lit up like lamps while drinking hot spiked cider, eating delicious snacks and looking at all the pretty lights reflecting on the water. You will sound so cool! As an aside, I also really enjoyed the Classic Rock Radio soundtrack which took me way back to the good times with gems like “Baby Don’t Do It” (!!!) by The Band and the Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” – a song with an insane saxophone solo that just takes off on its own little journey. Holy cow, I love this place. Treat me right, and I’ll bring you along next time. Because there will be a next time.
Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club is located at 89 South Street (South Street Seaport at Beekman Street) on the North Side of Pier 17. Be advised that you will actually be walking through a back alley and an employee parking lot before you arrive at your destination, so don’t freak out. Beach Club Hours are 11:30 AM to 3:00 AM Daily. Phone (212) 896-4600 for any further information.
