Video Clip of The Week: Tijuana Panthers, “Front Window Down”

Making an appearance here on The Gig’s Video Clip of the Week for an unprecedented THIRD TIME (Woo!), Long Beach rock trio Tijuana Panthers serendipitously capture both the elation of the beginning of summertime, and the sweet melancholy of summer’s end, in their latest video for the sublime tune, “Front Window Down. I love this band.

Visually, this is a fun, no frills clip of the band “performing” a small living room, with super-imposed images of bassist/lead singer Daniel Michicoff rocking out on the vocals, sometimes with a cigarette nonchalantly dangling from the corner of his mouth. A wash of jangly, surf rock guitars buttressed by a viscerally sludgy bassline, this exuberant burst of aural energy takes me back to the surf-garage rock revival of late ’70s / early ’80s California, and it’s all good. “Front Window Down”comes from the band’s upcoming fourth album, Poster, which, perhaps appropriately, will arrive on August 28th (via Innovative Leisure), right in time to reflect on this summer and summers past. Enjoy!

Beverage Review: Seagram’s Escapes Blackberry Breezer

Seagrams Escapes Four Pack

Seagram’s Escapes is an amazingly delicious line of flavored Malt Beverages (Read: Fruit Flavored Beer) that reminds me of those Bartles & Jaymes Wine Coolers I used to get so wasted on back when I was in College.

The brand has been around for years, but they introduce new flavors every so often to keep things lively.  Earlier this year, they sent me a four pack of their recently introduced Blackberry Breezer flavor.  These tall, slender bottles of tasty beverage have been chilling in my fridge, while I waited for the weather to get warm and sunny enough that I could take them out to my front porch and photograph them. But I was also awaiting the seasonal onset of summery weather that inspires one to lounge hedonistically by a pool and drink fruity beverages. That day came today.

Seagrams Escapes Blackberry Breezer Open

Blackberry Breezer tastes like Blackberry and Pear juice mixed together and it goes down very smooth. Unless you weigh less than 100 pounds, it takes at least two to get a decent buzz, but they taste so fruity, light and refreshing that maybe this will not be your go-to beverage to get slammed. Maybe save that for the vodka and cranberry juice.

Pink Thing of The Day: Pink Globes at O2 Arena

There is really nothing like other people’s FaceBook pages for providing awesome things to put on this blog. The above photo was taken by my friend Melinda inside a bar at the O2 Arena in London, UK after she attended a basketball event during the recent 2012 summer Olympics. Melinda confirms that this eye-popping sculpture of hanging globes in varying pink hues is purely decorative and not an actual light fixture. It sure does remind me of this thing here. Want.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer: All You Need for a Colorful Summer!

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish Ad

One of my favorite things about summer is  wearing my sandals as often as possible so I can rock a pedicure featuring the most vibrant Hot Pink nail color I can find. If you were fortunate enough to get a peek inside my bathroom cabinet, you would see a shelf stocked with various shades of pink, purple, magenta and fuchsia shades of nail color in sparkly and mat finishes —  because even though I like to dwell in the pink domain, I do like to change it up. Pink. Nail Polish. I am all about it.

Now, you are probably not going to even believe that this is even possible, but earlier this week I was invited to a party thrown by (Smart. Beautiful.) Maybelline to announce / celebrate the launch of their new line of Nail Lacquer called Color Show, that not only included free food and alcohol, but also free manicures! Color Show! Inspired by the colors and textures of the runway, Color Show comes in about a gazillion shades of the spectrum, from creamy to shimmery to glittery, but most importantly lots of shades of pink!

Color Show Crushed Candy Nail Lacquer

“Crushed Candy”

For my complimentary manicure (which included a hand massageomg) I chose a lacquer shade called Crushed Candy, which is a glittery, sparkly Hot Pink Fuchsia that looks so fantastic on my nails I simply cannot stop looking at my hands. Seriously, I am looking at them right now! Two coats covered my nails with a bright pink coat of shiny awesomeness, but then I put an extra coat on because I wanted to add a little extra on the tips of my nails, which is a good hint to extend a manicure when you use your hands as much as I do. As of right now my manicure is just over 36 hours old and I don’t have a single chip despite the fact that I type on a computer keyboard all day long.

Maybelline gave everyone at the party the super cool gift of a small make up case filled with 32 generous sample shades of Color Show. Please enjoy the anticipation of the gradual reveal!
