KaNO Mural on Allen Street Celebrates Five Points Festival

The annual Five Points Festival Designer Toy and Comic Show is coming up this weekend, June 1st and 2nd, and I am very excited to be attending for my second year! Coincidentally, I happened to walk by the above mural, located on Allen Street, a few weeks ago, unaware that it was originally created to honor the first-ever Five Points Fest, back in May of 2017. Apparently, the owners of the Allen Hotel reactivated a relationship with the Little Italy Street Art (LISA) Project  to bring street artist KaNO to the corner of Allen and Rivington Street, and this 40-foot mural was the result! Sweet!

Taking place at the conveniently located Brooklyn Expo Center, and presented by Clutter Magazine, the festival will bring together the best Indie Artists, Designer Toys, Original Art, Resin Sculptures, Plush, Blind Boxes, Blanks, Minis, Kaiju, Japanese Vinyl, Street Art, Posters, Prints, Apparel, Live Painting, Craft Beer, Food Trucks, Pins, Patches and more!

Trust me, it’s going to be all kinds of crazy fun. Find out more about this year’s Five Points Festival, and purchase your tickets, at This Link!

Street wear brand Nicopanda is behind the design for this expansive mural that stretches across the western façade of a tenement building at the corner of Allen Street and Stanton Street. on New York City’s Lower East Side. Known for its edgy and playful approach to ready-to-wear and accessories,  Nicopanda is the personal brand of style icon Nicola Formichetti. The Love Beyond Boarders mural is part of The New Allen project, is co-sponsored by MAC Cosmetics, and features a design based on Formichetti’s original Amoeba Panda print. While l I could not uncover an exact date of its creation, the mural appears to have been put up in early December, 2016.

Love Beyond Borders

“Our world feels divisive, right now, so the message of universal inclusivity is very important, and especially because many of our political leaders are suggesting otherwise,” Formichetti says in a statement on the brand’s website. “I believe in Love Beyond Borders, and that’s very much so at the core of Nicopanda.”

Patch Whisky Storefront Mural on Allen Street

The New Allen (#TheNewAllen) is an on-going public art project where different street artists are commissioned to paint murals on the walls and the storefront gates along Allen Street between Canal and Houston (where Allen turns into First Avenue). This one, done in the very distinctive style of South Carolina-based muralist Patch Whisky (real name Rich Miller) was spotted on the west side of Allen adjacent to number 129.  I think this piece is called the Candy Bandit, but I am not sure. Anyway, I love it.
