New Mural By Blek Le Rat in First Street Green Art Park

The legendary French graffiti and stencil artist Blek Le Rat was in town recently to do some press for his current solo exhibit in the Chelsea Gallery District. While he was here, he paid homage to one of his peers of the street art world with this stenciled likeness of the late Richard Hambleton in the First Street Green Art Park. Very cool!

MoMA and LEGO Collaborate to Release New Starry Night Set

The Museum of Modern Art is set to launch a new LEGO® Ideas set inspired by one of the most iconic works in MoMA’s collection, Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night (1889). The three-dimensional set reimagines the renowned painting — which has been in MoMA’s collection since 1935 — in LEGO form, emphasizing the artist’s striking brush strokes and color choices. The set will be available on June 1st for the general public at store.moma.org, at MoMA Design Stores in New York, and at LEGO locations globally.

Here’s another one of #TheNewAllen project murals, this one being located on the west side of Allen just above Delancey Street. This one is a collaboration between two street artists, Patch Whisky and Ghost Beard, who have worked together previously on murals in other US cities.

Now that summer is here, a warm, sunny day is the perfect time to go on a Street Art Safari around the neighborhoods of Williamsburg and the adjacent Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Just take the L Train from Manhattan to either the Bedford Avenue or Lorimer Avenue stops and you’ve got an urban Wonderland that’s yours to freely explore. Recently, we spotted this colorful piece by Brazilian mural artist Eduardo Kobra on North Ninth Street just east of Bedford Avenue and instantly recognized it as an homage to one of the 1985, black-and-white portrait photo’s by Michael Halsband (see below), which captured Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol wearing Everlast shorts and boxing gloves.
