Video Clip of The Week: “Abandoned” by Prevrat

Update: Sadly, this video is no longer online. However, you can still download the album for free at the updated Bandcamp link, below.

While there are what feel and sound like Eastern European sensibilities in the music of Post-punk/electronic artist Prevrat (aka Ric Gordon), he is actually from right here in the US – Kansas to be exact. I like the arty, sci-fi images in the video for “Abandoned” that complement the music’s mix of techno elements and melodic, soft rock. At it’s core, “Abandoned” is an exercise in minor chord moodiness that reminds me favorably of 80s post-punk bands like Tears For Fears.

“Abandoned” is from Prevrat’s sophomore album, Symbols, which is available for Name Your Price Download from Bandcamp.com at This Link. Enjoy!

Video Clip of The Week: “High Water” By Boardwalk

“High Water” by Boardwalk (the duo Mike Edge and Amber Quintero) is this week’s featured Video Clip because I can’t resist any song mixed with this much reverb. Boardwalk’s self-titled album was just released by the legendary independent music label Stones Throw Records. You know where to go to get it. Enjoy!

Video Clip of The Week: “Bad Reputation” By Bass Drum of Death

Do you like Rock & Roll? I sure do. This rad video from Bass Drum of Death was chosen as this week’s Video Clip because it is just so Rock & Roll, I can hardly live. The Rock is represented here by the song “Bad Reputation,” in which a 12 year old boy (portrayed by a 12 year old girl) takes a red sports car for a joy ride, smokes, drinks, does lots of blow, robs and mutilates a bad guy, picks up a hooker and, later, meets a reversal of fortune at the hands of his (her) own evil twin. The music is raw and exhilarating like late 1970s Punk Rock. All good.

And not to mention, but you can see I am about to, the band’s brain trust, John Barrett, is smokin’ hot. Enjoy!

Video Clip of The Week: “Strobe Light” By Night Club

Hello and welcome to Video Clip of The Week! This week’s featured video clip also qualifies 100% as a Pink Thing of the Day, because it is just so effing pink. Oh, the Pinkness. Their love of Pink aside, Night Club has a fascinating pedigree, being comprised of Keyboardist Mark Brooks (a co-director of Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse as well as videos by Slayer and Danzig, among others) and singer Emily Kavanaugh, whose dad is the keyboard player in the legendary Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

Video Clip of The Week: “Tonight” By Miss Guy

Miss Guy has been an icon of the NYC downtown music scene forever: not only as the dynamic lead singer of the awesome NYC Rock Band Toilet Boys, but also as possibly the best authentically Rock & Roll/First Wave Punk Rock club DJ on the circuit. In Miss Guy’s new video for “Tonight” (the second single off of his new EP God Save New York, which features guest appearances by Debbie Harry of Blondie) the Bowie/Blondie influences abound! Enjoy!
