Video Clip of the Week: The Garden, “What We Are”

For this weeks’ Video Clip, we have an amazing discovery with The Garden, a garage rock duo with both punk and goth leanings made up of 19-year-old identical twin hotties Wyatt and Fletcher Shears. You know that I am way past the stage where I am swayed by a pretty face, but these guys have so much more going for them than the model-quality good looks that won them an Yves Saint Laurent ad campaign with zero effort on their part. Most importantly, their music does not suck! With just bass (Wyatt) and drums (Fletcher), they manage to conjure the dark recesses of Bauhaus Meets Iggy Pop, and who could find fault with that? Answer: no one.

Video Clip of the Week: “Snakedog” By Together Pangea

Do you like to Rock? I sure do. But most of the music I hear these days, it just does not Rock. So, I am very excited to post this rocking new video by LA-based rock band Together Pangea, which is for their fun song called “Snakedog.” I like it! It’s super old school in a Rock-meets-Punk sort of way and, to me, sounds totally original despite reminding me of an ancient LA Punk band from the late 70s called The Flyboys, that no one remembers. Also, don’t tell me you don’t hear a little “Free Bird” in there, because you do. Snake Dog! Download “Snakedog” for Free at This Link, and enjoy The Rockingness!

Video Clip of The Week: The Happinesses “Beautiful Mistake”

In the mid-1990s, when music was an entirely different animal than it is now, there was a fantastic NYC-based power pop quartet, possessed of a wickedly gritty edge, called Thin Lizard Dawn. Thin Lizard Dawn were just about my favorite band in the world for the short time they were together. TLD sounded something like The Beatles meets 10 CC and their self-titled, 1995 debut featured energetic, danceable songs about smoking pot (“Weed”), enthusiastic sex (“Sexual Dynamo”) and how much they thought Oasis sucked (“Sucks). That’s right: they were amazing.

Video Clip of the Week: “Shelley” by Kid Wave

The seductive sound of UK-based quartet Kid Wave was described to me as “Johnny Marr hangin’ with The Beach Boys,” which was enough to pique my interest. But it’s lead singer Lea Emmery’s channeling of PJ Harvey and the minor chord melody entwined with Mattias Bhatt’s opiated guitar work that really hits this tune out of the ballpark. The plaintive refrain, “Let’s Go Surifn,” makes “Shelley” the perfect song for the bittersweet end of summer. Recommended if you like The Jesus and Mary Chain, Mazzy Star or The Sundays. Enjoy!

Video Clip of The Week: The Grip Weeds “Lies”

Do you like the Sixties Rock? I sure do. That’s why The Grip Weeds are one of my favorite local bands. Not only do they freely worship The Beatles, but they also pay homage to the sound of many of the greatest bands of both the Psychedelic era and the British Invasion. Oh my, they are so groovy.
