I was walking west from the 6 train at 103rd Street on the way to the Museum of the City of New York when I spotted this very cool mural, which looked to me at first like a Native American interpretation of the Statue of Liberty. It turns out that the artist is Mexican muralist Sego, and this striking piece is done in his signature organic style. Entitled Freedom and Emancipation of The Natural World, the mural was painted for the Monument Art Festival, which took place in October of 2015. All of the Artworks in collection of the Brooklyn Museum aren’t necessarily inside the museum. For example, if you head outside and around the back of the building, you won’t be able to miss this replica of the Statue of Liberty, which has found a home in the Parking Lot that separates the Museum from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. On December 9th, Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises and World Yacht Dinner Cruises celebrated the festive season and lent support to two Local Non-Profits with the first annual Lighting of the Ships – which was a Family-friendly Visual Spectacular! The popular Cruise providers hosted an evening of lights and revelry for local New Yorkers at Piers 81 and 83, including two specialty cruises for Cruise provider-selected NYC non-profit organizations, each of which is committed to enhancing the lives of New Yorkers. British pop artist Peter Blake never really became a household name here in the US despite having designed one of the most famous and iconic album covers of all time; that of the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. While Blake is often called “the Godfather of Pop Art” – and his work is widely shown and collected throughout Europe – he has rarely shown in the United States. World Tour, now on display through June 18th, 2011 at New York’s Mary Ryan Gallery is only his third exhibition in New York since 1962.
