Gail In Print: Modern Drummer, August 2008

Perfectly timed to hit the newsstands concurrently with the Dethklok tour, the August 2008 issue of Modern Drummer magazine has my update on drummer Gene “The Machine” Hoglan somewhere in the front of the book. Gene Rules!

Deth Klok

I don’t usually get too riled up about going to see a band play live, but tonight I am going to see Dethklok. I am excited.

Things to do in New York City On The Roof of the MET

Night Shot

I’ve previously blogged about seeing artist Jeff Koons’ work at the LA County Museum of Art this past May, so you can bet your sweet ass I’ll be making a stop at The Metropolitan Museum of Art this weekend to check out their much-blogged-about new exhibit Koons on the Roof. Here’s a review from the New York Times which has a few pictures to give you an idea of the scale of the exhibit. Although I believe only three sculptures are included, none of them have been on public display before, plus the view of the city alone is worth the price of admission (it’s $20, though I’ll be using my work ID to get in for free). And I understand the roof has a bar where you can get a special “Jeff Koons Martini.” So the question is, how could you stay away, really? Koons on the Roof runs through October 26th, 2008, weather permitting.

George Carlin, 1937 – 2008

Comedian George Carlin passed away Sunday of heart failure at the age of 71. It seems like George Carlin’s comedy was a part of my life since I was a tiny lass, and initially got all shocked and horrified at his routine about “The Seven Dirty Words You Can’t Say On Television.” Because I was about ten years old at the time and hadn’t yet become the expert at swearing that I am today. I never saw Carlin perform, but I did once meet his nephew, Dennis Carlin, who is a drummer in a punk rock band out in LA. He was pretty funny as well. Rest in “Mother Fucking Cock Sucking” peace, George.

Urban Field Trip of the Week: Ikea!

Ikea!

Today Geoffrey and I had a very exciting adventure together when we hauled our tight little asses out to Redhook, Brooklyn and spent a couple of hours wandering around in a daze inside the gargantuan new Ikea that opened just last Wednesday. It was so much fun! Here’s what I came back to the city with:

4 Black 20-inch square throw pillows

1 Multi-colored rag rug for my kitchen floor

1 Vanilla candle in reusable glass holder

1 Lint roller

Total cost for all this loot: $20!!

Gee wiz, what a bargain! I will be returning to Ikea again and again!
