Do you like Oreos? I sure do, As someone who has always been a fan, I was curious to see what all the fuss was about when Oreo recently relaunched its Cakesters with an even softer cake recipe. To celebrate, the brand opened a delightfully squishy pop-up experience called The Soft Life, and I was lucky enough to stop by and snap a few photos for this post. The event leaned hard into comfort and softness Influencer vibes, which makes perfect sense once you bite into one of these treats.
First introduced in 2007, discontinued in 2012, and brought back in 2022, Oreo Cakesters have evolved into something that feels less like a traditional cookie and more like a cross between a Whoopie Pie and a brownie sandwich. Instead of the familiar crisp Oreo wafers, Cakesters feature pillowy soft-baked cakes with a creamy filling tucked in between.
According to Oreo, the new formula makes them softer than ever, and I have to agree. The cake has a rich, brownie-like texture, while the filling tastes creamier and less sugary than the crème found in regular Oreos. Also, they don’t stick in your teeth as traditional Oreos tend to do.
The lineup currently includes four flavors: Original, Golden, Double Chocolate, and Confetti Cake. Original and Golden both feature vanilla crème, while Double Chocolate turns the indulgence up a notch with chocolate filling. Confetti Cake, meanwhile, brings birthday cake vibes complete with colorful sprinkles.
I found all of them delicious, but I love the original variety the best — call me a purist!
Another thing I appreciate is the packaging. Each box contains four individually wrapped two-packs, making them easy to toss into a bag for work, a road trip, or an afternoon snack. The portion-controlled packs also help prevent me from sitting down and accidentally inhaling an entire box in one sitting — which, trust me, could happen.
Oreo may be known as “Milk’s Favorite Cookie,” but these soft-baked treats are carving out their fan base. If you’ve never tried Cakesters before, or if you remember them from years ago, the latest version is definitely worth seeking out!
