This vibrant, three-story mural was completed by artist Beau Stanton in August 2015 as part of the LoMan Arts Festival. If you’re thinking of adding it to your next Urban Art Safari, be advised that it stands on private property, in the courtyard of the Project Renewal Men’s Shelter, located at 30 East 3rd Street (between 2nd Ave and Bowery) in the East Village. You can try sneaking in if the gate is open (as we did), but their security guards don’t give a shit if you know the artist, just love the art or whatever. Just saying.
Thanks to Leah Cevoli for telling me about this campaign:
“My name is Brad Carter. I am an actor, artist, occasional stand-up comedian and a guitarist from Macon, Georgia now living in Los Angeles, Ca. In the past few months I’ve had two surgeries on my brain to help me play guitar again. Maybe you saw it on the Today Show or your local news. I never knew any of that was going to happen. All I wanted was to be able to play guitar for a few years longer. I have a disease called Essential Tremor. This is a progressive neurological disease and there is no cure. My doctors think it could very well become Parkinson’s in the near future. I want to make the most of the time the surgery has given me by recording an album and sharing my story with you. Thank you for becoming a part of this Kickstarter project. It means the world to me.”
Please visit Brad’s Kickstarter page at This Link to watch Brad’s very moving video, to get more information on Brad and to donate to his very deserving campaign! Thank You!
DEVO: Alan Myers is on the Far Right (Image Source)
Alan Myers, drummer for the pioneering new wave rock band DEVO from 1976 to 1986, passed away on June 24th, 2013 after a long bout with Brain Cancer. He was 58 years old. Myers’ uniquely metronomic drumming style can be heard on now legendary DEVO albums such as Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, Duty Now for the Future and Freedom of Choice, the title track of which is one of my favorite DEVO songs. RIP Alan.
OK, I think you will agree that this is a truly unique pink thing. Artist Emilio Garcia is back at it with another small run of his Jumping Brain resin figure. The Neon Pink Jumping Brain is exclusive to Urban Angel Gallery. There are only 20 pieces available at £150.00 each (about $246). These are signed, numbered and include a nice plush (toupee-like) base. Because, you know, it’s ART!
Thanks to Plastic and Plush for the Tip!
