Happy Birthday, Pete Townshend!

Pete Townshend, guitarist for The Who and certainly one of the most awesome living Rock Stars ever in the universe of all time, was born on this day, May 19th, in 1945. I’m lucky enough (meaning that I am old enough now) to have seen The Who live in their prime before the death of Keith Moon. This was way back in March of 1976, at the Anaheim Stadium in Orange County, California where I grew up. I think the ticket was $12. I’d say that show is probably in the top three or four concert experiences of my life, and I do remember it was VERY LOUD, despite being held at an outdoor sports stadium with a capacity of over 55,000 people. My ears still hurt. In fact, according to Who legend, that concert is the one at which Townshend claims to have lost a good percentage of his hearing. “Happy Birthday, Pete!”

Actual Picture of California at Christmas

I finally landed at LAX around 2:30 this morning. I’ve already told Sue that she gets one of my kidneys if she ever needs one – for picking me up at the airport, you know. Kidneys for everyone! This afternoon we are going to see a performance of the play Jesus Christ, Superstar, which, oddly, still stars Ted Neeley (star of the original movie, made back in the ’70s). Apparently, in this version of the story, Jesus lives to be sixty. A true Christmas miracle! More later as it develops.

Tar Pits

1. Sue and I were walking to the fancy Marie Calendars restaurant to have a delicious lunch before going to the LA County Museum of Art (LACMA) when I mentioned to her that, “Gee, it really smells like tar out here.” She then pointed out that we were, in fact, walking directly across the street from The La Brea Tar Pits. Funny! But seriously, that shit smells like tar. Continue reading Top Ten Fun Things About My Trip to California That I Did Not Blog About Yet
