In the midst of Black Friday bargain-hunting, I passed by this pair of large Silver Ears attached to the glass doors of a not-yet-opened business called, as the sign on the left door would indicate, Inked. A little Googling reveals that the ears are attached to the future home of a retail shop and tattoo parlor affiliated with Inked tattoo lifestyle magazine. Originally schedules to open its doors in OctoberInked will inhabit an 8,500-square-foot space for an art gallery, tattoo studio” in this ground floor space in Chelsea. Inked will be the first retail location for the tattoo lifestyle company. The magazine was launched in 2004, reaching some 1.2 million readers, according to a press release.

The Inked Retail Store is (or will soon be) Located at 150 West 22nd Street Between 6th and 7th Avenues in Manhattan.

Extend Your Summer Vibe With Lifestyle Accessories From Pomchies!

Pomchies Accessories
All Photos By Gail Except Where Noted

Back to School: three little words that stir anxiety in the young and the young-at-heart. Nobody wants summer to end, but while you can’t stop time, you can keep your summer vibe alive by adding Pomchies accessories to your back-to-school shopping list. Established in 2002, Pomchies is a line of fun fashion, home and lifestyle accessories with amazingly practical uses.

The company name Pomchie was originally coined to describe a soft ‘ouchless’ ponytail holder — part scrunchie, part pom pom — which was its debut product. Pomchies accessories were born from a quest for sustainability, back when Pomchies owner Heather Logan was selling children’s sun protective swimwear and the Australia-based factory was in search of a way to use the scraps of left-over fabric. While Pomchies now buys its fabric by the container load, the adventurous spirit that launched this fun, carefree accessory line still informs its creative aesthetic. All Pomchie products are soft and waterproof, made from washable Oeko Tex approved swimwear fabric.

I recently received a surprise box of assorted Pomchies items to try, some of which – such as ubiquitous fashion hair accessory known as the scrunchie – I’ve already been using for years, and others that I never knew I needed until they landed on my doorstep. Let’s take a look!

Scrunchie Threesome

I have very long hair that loves to fly around in the breeze, so to keep it out of my face, I tie it back with a scrunchie practically on a daily basis. The Pomchies Hair Scrunch comes as a single piece, or a coordinated 3-pack, and there literally hundreds of color combinations, so you can own one to match every outfit.

Pomchie Headbands

Headbands are another hair accessory that’s made a big comeback owing to the fitness craze, but I like to use one to hold back my hair when I wash my face or put on make-up. They are indispensable!

Water Bottle Holder

These days, nearly everyone can be seen toting a water bottle for on-the-go hydration. An alternative to tossing your bottle into your bag or backpack (where it can get lost) would be to carry it in this Pomchie Water Bottle Holder. The style above has a shorter strap for hanging across your arm or shoulder, while the cross-body style, seen below, allows for more freedom of movement.

Key Ring

Are you someone who regularly misplaces their car or house keys? Consider keeping them close-at-hand with a Pomchie Key Ring, which is made to wear on your wrist!

There’s still time this season to do some outdoor entertaining, and if you’re drinking wine, which I hope you are, check out these Pom-Charms wine glass charms. So festive and fun!

Pom ID Luggage Tag

For years while travelling, I’ve identified my easily-overlooked black suitcase on the baggage-claim carousel by the hot pink bath puff tied to the handle. Now, I can toss that away and swap it out for these colorful Pom-ID Bag Tags! Everybody who owns non-descript luggage needs these!

Pomchie products are a unique way to show your individuality and add color to your life while helping you feel organized and put-together. In addition to the products showcased in this post, there are Pom-Shoes, Spirit Band-it Headbands, Team-Twist Braided Bracelets, Pom-Braid and Double Pom-Braid braided Lanyards, Cellphone Holders, Eyeglass Keepers, and many other items in the line.  Pomchies accessories are available to purchase in over 2000 retail outlets around the country, and you can find a list of where to buy them in your area at This Link!

Food Fête Winter 2013: Delicious Discoveries Ahead

Food Fete Welcome Sign
All Photos By Gail

Food Fête is an intimate, semi-annual press event that connects gourmet food, beverage and kitchenware products like brand new sink designs and faucets like the Triflow Concepts all the way to new cookbook recipes. I attended my first Food Fête event last year and they hooked me up with some delicious food stories that you got to read right here on The Worley Gig, such as Kettle Brand Chips, Cucina Fresca Gourmet Mac and Cheese and Emmi Fondue. Because writing about food is awesome.

Food Fete Crowd

Winter Food Fête was held here in Manhattan last evening and the room was packed with writers all hungry to learn about new, innovative and delicious foods. All attendees received a large canvas Food Fête gift bag to fill with exhibitor information and samples, and there was also a variety of delicious passed hors d’oeuvres, not to mention (but you can see I am about to) a bar serving samples of wines from the Pacific Northwest and craft beer to keep the evening lively and enhance a cocktail party-like atmosphere.

Here are some of my favorite products from last night’s event:

Onion Crunch Display

Onion Crunch is delcious topping made from crispy fried onions that has zero grams of transfat. I sampled Onion Crunch as part of an amazing chip dip and sprinkled on grilled turkey hot dogs served right at their booth. They also make a Bacon variety! This is a must-have ingredient for your holiday green bean casserole!

Onion Crunch Mascot

Plus, look how cute their little Mascot is!

Edys Ice Cream

Edy’s Ice Cream (also known on the West Coast as Dreyer’s) was on hand to promote several limited Edition Flavors for Summer, which will be available from May to August, 2013. We sampled the German Chocolate Cake Spectacular (which tasted like a frozen German Chocolate Cake) and Take The Cake, which reminded me of a delicious vanilla birthday cake loaded with sweet creamy frosting and candy sprinkles. Very sweet, but utterly fabulous. Edy’s also gave away free ice cream scoopers!

Maple Bacon Kettle Chips

Kettle Brand Chips is introducing two new Summer flavors, including… Maple Bacon. Yes, please!

Hemp Hearts

Manitoba Harvest is company that manufactures a variety of nutritious Hemp-based foods. Last night they were promoting Hemp Hearts, a hemp kernel product with a nutty flavor very similar to the taste and texture of hulled sesame seeds or sunflower seed kernels. Hemp Hearts would be great sprinkled on salads or soups, but you can also bake with them.

Seagrams Escape Cocktails

Everybody loves to drink and Seagrams Escapes is introducing new flavors, such as the Blackberry Breezer, in their line of flavored malt beverages, which are based on favorite cocktails and are very similar to a hard Lemonade or Wine Cooler. In addition to 17 bottled fruit flavor combinations, they also offer 6 frozen varieties available in freeze and serve pouches! Jamaican Me Happy and Blue Hawaiian are two new flavors debuting in March, 2013. Cheers!

Snikiddy Snacks

Snikiddy Snacks (great name!) made its presence known at Food Fête with a variety of crunchy cheese flavored snacks in puffs and sticks. All very yummy.

Cake Boss at Food Fete

Cake Boss was there, serving tiny plates with sample tastings of every kind of cake they make, I think, A great idea for sure! Cake Boss!
