Dorian Grey Gallery in the East Village hosted an informal brunch today to promote its current exhibit, Indulgences, works on paper and recent paintings by New York artist Walter Robinson. As you might infer from the show’s title, Indulgences includes paintings of sweets and fast food favorites, pharmaceuticals and alcohol. The show also includes a selection of celebrity portraits, nudes and romance novel covers, but I didn’t feel compelled to shoot pictures of any of that stuff, so, you know, just go to the gallery and check it out.

Origami Catfish from a Dollar Bill
Lady Gaga Dollar Bills By Craig Gleason

A Selection of Craig Gleason’s “Gaga Dollars” (Image Source)
Artist Craig Gleason likes to draw Lady Gaga on the dollar bill, which he then sells as individual works of original art. Genius. Sometimes Craig frames and sells these altered pieces of still-negotiable currency in sets of three or six bills all grouped together. You can kind of see how these things would lend themselves well to having mass appeal – because Gaga is everywhere – as well as a high collectability-factor. Read about and see more Gaga Dollars at Gleason’s Website (NSFW, trust me). The bills pictured above are from 2010, but he might still be doing this project. I’m not sure because the header graphic of his blog is so disturbing I had a hard time keeping the browser open. Just being serious.
Gene Simmons on the 20 Dollar Bill
I’m sure that if Gene Simmons saw this piece of fun art that someone drew on a twenty spot, he’d be wondering why it wasn’t a $100 Dollar Bill, and why it couldn’t be considered legal tender if he just decided to manufacturer them himself. Because that is how he rolls.
Dr. Rockso On the Dollar Bill!
Someone with a sense of humor, a slight artistic bent and a love of Metalocalypse drew the face of Dr. Rockso, the Rock & Roll Clown (he does Cocaine) on a dollar bill. So, it gets to be on my site, because it is awesome.
