Hasted Kraeutler is currently hosting a major retrospective of Martin Schoeller’s unique portrait photography, which has been organized to coincide with the release of his Portraits Coffee Table Book, spanning 15 years of the photographer’s illustrious career.

Schoeller’s work has a playfulness that reminds me a little it of Annie Leibovitz from back when she was all the rage. These portraits are very challenging to shoot because you can’t get a direct shot without getting yourself in the glare of the frame’s glass, so apologies for so many side angle shots, but it could not be helped. Here are a few of our favorites from the show!

Steve Carell

Steve Carell, star of The Office, has tape over his face. Clever.

Jeff Koons

I believe this shot of artist Jeff Koons was taken for his New York Magazine exposé in 2013. Gazing Ball had just opened at David Zwirner gallery. Good times.

Cate Blanchett

Here is actress Cate Blanchett. She is so beautiful, and also an excellent actress!

Zach Galifianakis

Zach Galifianakis: I saw his standup comedy routine once and it was hilarious.

Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman, also a very funny lady

Christian Bale

Everybody knows this photo of Christian Bale, which references his character in American Psycho. The movie was not very good, but I just could not bring myself to read the book.

Ozzy Osbourne

I love this photo of Ozzy Osbourne.

Michael Douglas

Here is actor Michael Douglas. Did you see him in the Liberace movie? He was amazing.

You should go see this exhibit.

Martin Schoeller’s Portraits will be on Exhibit Through January 3rd, 2015 at Halsted Kraeutler, Located at 537 West 24th Street in the Chelsea Gallery District.

Black Sabbath Haunted Maze Is Part of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood

Black Sabbath Halloween Horror Nights

Black Sabbath Rocks Universal Studios Hollywood’s ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ as
A New 3D Maze Inspired by the World-Renowned Band Joins the Line-Up
of Blood-Curdling Haunted Attractions at the Award-Winning Extreme Terror Event

Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath, the celebrated, multi-platinum rock band that pioneered the Heavy Metal genre with their dark and doom-laden sounds, fused with lyrical themes of the occult, addiction, war and nuclear apocalypse, will be immortalized in an all-original, terrifying 3D maze, Black Sabbath: 13 3D at Universal Studios Hollywood’s premier Halloween Horror Nights event, beginning September 20th, 2013.

The new maze, based on the darkest lyrics from Black Sabbath’s biggest hit songs — and the only attraction at the horror event to incorporate 3D video — will also include scenes inspired by the legendary band’s recently released Billboard #1 album, 13. A nightmarish landscape of doom will engulf guests as they enter Black Sabbath: 13 3D and traverse through horrifying graveyards, disturbing madhouses and bone-chilling battlefields.

“We were all really excited when Universal Studios Hollywood approached us about doing a 3D ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ maze based on our music,” said Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne. “I’ve seen the drawings of what it will look like when it’s finished and it looks amazing. I can’t wait to walk through it on opening night in September.”

Guests will come face to face with a heart-stopping Lucifer and his bride, blood-soaked dead bodies and bubbling pools of “radioactive water” while song’s inspired by “Luke’s Wall,” “Iron Man,” “Paranoid,” “War Pigs,” “Electric Funeral” and – of course – “Black Sabbath” violently penetrate the confines of the maze at high volume.

Very Scary!

Remembering Randy Rhoads and Paul Kossoff

Randy Rhoads

On This Date, March 19th in 1982: Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist Randy Rhoads died in a plane crash in Leesburg, FL when the plane crashed into Osbourne’s tour bus. The pilot Andrew Aycock – who caused the crash by trying to “buzz” the top of the bus as a prank –  and hairdresser Rachel Youngblood were also killed. Rhoads was 25 years old. Free guitarist Paul Kossoff also died on this day in 1976, also at age 25, after suffering a drug-related heart attack while on a flight to Los Angeles. RIP to two great young talents lost way too soon.

Happy Birthday, Lita Ford!

Lita Ford 2009

Lita Ford, guitarist for The Runaways, ex-lover of Nikki Sixx and former singer of duets with Ozzy Osbourne was born on this day. September 19th, in 1958. While I’m sure she’s had a little bit of work done, she still looks pretty great, despite probably having done more than her fair share of partying back in the day. Happy Birthday, Lita!

Ozzy Is Still Alive

Rock Stars in the Larval Stage

Guess Who?

!! Whiplash! O Mais Completo Site de Rock!

Ian sent me the above link to this Brazilian web zine called Whiplash. Somehow, they seem to have gotten their hands on a huge archive of photos of Rock Stars in stages from mere infancy to teenage years. Each musician or band is archived under a separate link, which actually makes it easier to find a specific person, if you happen to be looking for baby pictures of Steven Tyler. You honestly will not believe the adorable pictures of Ozzy Osbourne as a toddler posted on this site, and I think someone definitely had the opportunity to raid the baby picture archives of Marilyn Manson’s parents. There’s also some truly squeal-inducing elementary school age pictures of the late Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain that will just break your heart. On the lighter side, I found the world’s gayest picture of Slash (at about age 14) and another one of Paul Stanley that is just as gay as pink suede. Check out the picture of Green Day drummer Tre Cool (my guess: age five) and tell me he doesn’t still look exactly like that. And last but not least, where the hell did they get a picture of Syd Barrett, who looks to be about 2 or 3 in the photo. Fascinating stuff.
