According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are about 2 million truck drivers working in the United States as of May 2023. However, the number of accidents caused by trucks also matches the number of drivers in the field.
IIHS statistics on truck accidents report that there were 4,714 more fatal truck accidents and truck driver deaths in 2021. This is a 17% increase from 2020.
