If you can make it to the Metropolitan Museum of Art before the October 1st, 2019 closing date of its attendance record-setting exhibit, Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll you will find that it is so much more than just a collection of famous guitars. For me, the Oh, Wow factor is summed up in the true work of art that is Keith Moon’s Pictures of Lily Drumkit circa 1967. Jesus god, look at this beautiful thing. Just look at it. Happy 60th Birthday, Neal Smith!

Neal on his Mirrored Drumkit, Billion Dollar Babies Tour, 1972
Today, September 23rd, is the sixtieth birthday of my very good friend, Neal, who was the drummer in and a founding member of the legendary ‘70s rock band Alice Cooper. Without Neal’s influence and association (along with that of Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and the late Glen Buxton), the solo artist now known as Alice Cooper would certainly be doing something else for a living these days. Rock on Neal, and thanks for all the great music. You’re still a superstar to me!
